Off the record here. Tremont Waters does ot again. Hits the game winner vs. Mizzou. The thing about it he calls for the ball to win games. Cold blooded. This would be a perfect post for the Pro and College Sports page. Or maybe even the Tremont Waters thread on the Recruiting page. Not sure what it has to do with discussion of the Georgetown Xavier game.🤔

Of course one could counter that Waters was the dummy to not give Ewing a chance and play in a system that would suit him perfectly. He's playing for an LSU program that ain't going nowhere either, a program that did nothing when they brought in the #1 recruit a couple of years ago. And if the only way for the Hoyas to keep Waters was by keeping III then that would have certainly meant the Hoyas would not have gotten Pickett. I'll take Pickett tank you. Doesn't yet affect games like Waters but his upside is higher IMO. I think Xavier may have died a little inside to day with this upcoming L. They'll bounce back but they may not do it in time for the Hoya game. Man....Nova OWNS Xavier.

Hard to know how Xavier will feel when they show up this week -- they could be angry and play inspired or just be tired after seeing their best chance to take a major step toward winning a league title slip through their fingers. Either way, they will be a really tough matchup for the Hoyas. I hope we don't get a false sense of security from how we played in Cincinnati. Xavier had the advantage of knowing how well we are playing right now.
I do think not letting them get under our skin will be key to this game. I now expect every game we play to be close throughout. We can play with almost anyone right now (possibly excepting Villanova), and I figure we will be in the game. We need to not let Macura get under our skin and not get too nervous if they hit a few threes. Xavier isn't a great team defensively. We just need to take the shots they give us and try our best to limit their opportunities from 3.

The Hoyas are laying in the weeds, ready to pounce...i suspect Xavier's psyche has been damaged after today. I feel we will be them. This homestand is ALL about payback!!!!

The pressure is all on them. A loss to us would kill Xaviers RPI and would be devastating. We really have nothing to lose.

Waiting for this game has been brutal. Yeah, a week off in the middle of February - don't they think about how hard it is on us fans?!

How wonderful is it that we get a week of chest constricting anticipation for a game, which seemed all but impossible one short month ago. Kudos to all involved. I think we may yet see another level of efficiency reached for these Hoyas, it's winning time, and the man at the tiller knows where to pilot his ship. Good times!

I think we may yet see another level of efficiency reached for these Hoyas, it's winning time, and the man at the tiller knows where to pilot his ship. Good times! At the beginning of the year I was hopeful that the Hoyas would be competitive in most of the conference games and thought they could win 3 -5 conference games. The two teams I thought they had no chance against were Nova and Xavier. The Nova game was ugly but they should have beaten Xavier in the first match-up which was unthinkable before the season, or even a few weeks into the season. They already have 5 conference wins and are certainly on an upswing over the last few weeks. At this point I expect them to win at least another game or two in conference before the tournament. Beating Xavier this time would still be a huge upset, but they showed they can play with them so who knows what might happen. The continued personal and team improvement was what I hoped for this season, and we have absolutely seen that.

Does taking 2 of the next 3 home games seem so far-fetched any more? Not to me.

Does taking 2 of the next 3 home games seem so far-fetched any more? Not to me. For what it's worth, right now KenPom says we are 30% against Xavier, 55% against Providence, and 48% against Marquette. So even if you take that as an accurate reflection, it's certainly not "far-fetched" - perhaps not very likely but it's within the realm of possibility - especially Providence and Marquette. I still think it's pretty far-fetched to think we have any reasonable chance against Villanova, because it's an away game and we do not match up well with them, but any chance is still a chance.

However, what I hope has changed in recent weeks in this team is that they have started to believe that they can and should win games against the better BE teams. In that regard I hope that the Hoyas feel that same amount of pressure too. Enough progress has been made over the course of the season that I think it is fair to expect them (and for them to expect themselves) to be competitive in a home game against a quality team like Xavier.

Coach Ewing’s goal is to make the NCAAs, so I’m sure he is approaching every game as a must win. We will be ready and feeling internal pressure. No doubt.

On the flip side..I wonder if the team's recent strong performances have captured Xavier's attention. They may be more focused on playing us then before, when we were losing, and took them to the brink. We will see!

I am really hoping the Hoyas can steal a victory from Xavier tomorrow, but realistically if both teams come out and play well, Xavier is the better team right now and probably wins. I think Georgetown has a real chance against Providence and Marquette because I think they match up much better against both of them. I would be happy if they can win 2 of the next 4 and go into the BET with 7 conference wins and hope to get at least one more win in NYC and put themselves in the discussion for the NIT.
An 18 win season was not something I expected before this season started and I think that would show great growth from the team and that the program is going in the right direction.

All true Boston. And if we can play Xavier the way we did out there - at BOTH end - we can be right in it at the end.

Play hard, smart and have fun. Take care of the ball. Attack the basket and pound it inside. Know when your in the bonus and double bonus. Play with strategy. This starts with the coach and his point guard. Communicate.
