At Oregon, Michigan and Illinois and home against Fairfield.
This is not your father's OOC schedule.

Now I want to know who we're playing at MCI. I hope the competition there is as good as our away games.

San Jose State RPI -- 281 Oregon RPI -- 81 Good move JT3! I guess it's just not that simple for me. If we dumped on SJSU to get this Oregon game, that sucks and we should be embarrassed. I'm not assuming that's the case, but I do want a good explanation of why we bought out of that game.

Since my wife and I would like to retire in Eugene, this would be a nice time to visit. Also, to visit the kid up the street who runs for UO. ;D

What sort of alternative universe are we in where we would question the dropping of San Jose St. for Oregon? What's so embarrassing about trying to play against superior competition? Isn't this what we've been clamoring for? I still feel that if these two games were indeed were swapped for each other, the upside of doing so vastly outweighs the downside. That's how decisions should be made and it seems that this is how this decision was made.

It's difficult to analyze that without knowing the tentative date the SJSU game was to be played. Eugene is not the easiest place to get to from D.C. (or the other way around) - at least one and probably two connections unless you charter. That's a complete day traveling each way without alllowing much time for a practice on the U of O court. So you are looking at a 4 day trip just to play the one game. The first thing I thought about was why not hook them up in one trip, but the more I thought about it, I realized the kids would be away for a full week right before exams. That is even assuming the dates around the Oregon game worked for SJSU.

I just feel that once you commit to play a game, you should play it unless something drastic comes up. Getting a better offer does not fulfill that criteria. How would be feel if another school dumped us for a "better" opponent?
I sincerely hope that's not what actually occurred here.

I also think this sounds like the UMD situation. From twerps fans I hear we backed out and vice versa but it can't make scheduling easier in years when we are stretched to find another opponent. I like the change but feel the cost might have been too high.

How would be feel if another school dumped us for a "better" opponent? I sincerely hope that's not what actually occurred here. Unfortunately, this is the way Big Time Athletics are played...90% of the time, the little guy will get the "dookie" end of the stick... 10-20 years ago, we would have played SJSU without batting an eye...but since the NCAA has placed an emphasis on non-conference schedules, we have to adjust accordingly... I personally think it's crappy because a lot of schools, like the MEAC teams, bank on those checks they get from the big schools to help fund other things in their athletic departments... But hey...what'cha gonna do?
