Do we have one player with a high basketball IQ? I've been really impressed with Derrickson as he does a lot of little things really well (he pushes what he can do, which is quite a bit, a little to far at times). His spacing off ball movement (O & D) is really good, working to get rebounds, disrupt on D if not get a block or steal, and good quick passes inside or kickouts. Kaleb this year has really improved his IQ and his capabilities have improved as well (it could have been his abilities were not up to where his IQ was in past years). He make few if any boneheaded moves and often is where he should be, but many players aren't on D or helping to get Hoyas unstuck on Offense side. Govan has improved a ton this year with offensive placement, knowing when to swing the ball or put it up, or back the defender down. He has improved on his greatly lacking defense and inside play this year. Following the instructions Patrick gives during games it seems Govan is listening to some degree and putting it into his game.

We honestly did well to keep it tied with so many turnovers. The offense still looks badly out of synch. Careless turnovers and bad misses all over the court. We also aren't rebounding like we should. SJU got more extra chances than they should. I'm surprised by how badly St. John's is playing though. Really poor shooting, a lot of rushed shots. Their only real strength seems to be not turning the ball over. I’m just not sure what the offense is trying to do. It’s like we want to get it to Govan/Derrickson and there’s no alternate plan. Not sure about that at all, we've missed 3 in and out 3s that were good shots (Pickett, Govan, Blair), and a few bunnies inside that were also good shots but for some reason we couldn't put down. The offense seems to be getting pretty good shots to me, but at some point you have to start making them, or the offense is going to appear to be terrible. Nothing to do with the actual shots we are getting. And when you keep dribbling off your feet or travelling, it also makes the scheme look much worse than it actually is.

As bumpy as this game is, I am really impressed with Patrick and his approach to coaching. A lot of good teaching is going on. Really hoping it is being absorbed. Serious question: what teaching are you seeing? As in, what are you seeing on the court that reflects the teaching? Following along with what Patrick is saying, is the good teaching part. The absorption part of it is what I'm not sure what is happening, which is also the tough part as there are years of doing something that isn't working to undo in minutes and under pressure. Govan and Derrickson seems to be able to follow the direction and make in game adjustments that Patrick is instructing.

Kalebs defense is above average as is his work on the boards. However on offense he has no handle, needs a lot of time to get his shot off and generally cannot create his own shot. Not being an ass because he, like Mosley, is all effort all the time, but he is at best a role player and not contributing enough on offense to help this team overcome its shortcomings.

Haven’t heard RAF this subdued in a long time, if ever. Must be depressed over level of play. Guys are working hard,as usual, but my God: Value the ball! Not sure how that is coached, but it needs to be done.

Yea because we have no alternative options. I'm not sure what you WANT the offense to do with this roster. Maybe move the ball around so we can open up some space and either get it back to the post or at least get an open shot? If we were whiffing on good looks I would chalk it up to our shooters being bad (which is true to some extent) but that’s not all of it. I mean have you seen us pass it around the perimeter? The reason we don't is it results in a turnover 3 times out of 4. It's lack of ability as much as anything else.

Avoid repetitive posts, Glide. Nine consecutive posts is too many.
