If we want to improve on last years BE record WE HAVE TO win these home games against second tier BE teams. I have no idea what to expect from Butler. Anyone seen them play? How do we match up?

A couple of solid wins would allow the OOC schedule to fade into the background a little bit.😶

I haven't but assume they'll be Butlery as always. Good team defense, getting turnovers. OK on offense but you have to try to make the wrong guys shoot threes rather than the guys they want. Winnable game and a big game in that the longer it takes to get a strong win, the more it gets in everyone's head. Really want to see us start off 1-0. We haven't been above .500 in conference since February 2016.

I've seen them play a number of times this year, I think Gtown can play with them.. Butler has the advantage on the wings(Martin & Baldwin) but Gtown is much better in the front-court.. This is definitely a winnable game for Gtown..

As long as the Hoyas come out and look inspired to play rather than looking passive enough to take a punch in the face without complaint, then it will be a step in the right direction regardless of the final outcome. Give me a team who "punches" back when opponents try to take it to them.

Looks like Ken Pom projects a 5-13 conference record. We will be the favorite according to Ken Pom in only 2 games - DePaul & Providence @ home.
I am an optimistic....I will take the over.

Butler is perimeter-oriented and they are streaky shooters. I have seen them three times and they have looked every bit as erratic as the Hoyas. In each game they started slow and got better in the second half. A couple of bangers inside who might draw fouls but should not be able to stop Govan or MD. Real question is which team can play better defense, particularly on the perimeter. From what I have seen, Butler has a tendency to give up wide-open 3s just like the Hoyas-maybe something good for Kaleb/Blair who appear to need the time and space to get their shot off. Hopefully they play Kaleb or Mosley on Martin to try and hold him down a little. If the Hoya guards find their shooting touch under the Christmas tree, this could be a good win to start the BE. If not, well...

If the Hoyas are going to show any progress from last year, it's games like this that they have to win. Road wins in the Big East are going to be VERY tough to come by, so we have to take ones like this, Providence, Depaul, SJU, Marquette at home..
As for Butler, they are not the super well-coached/deep team from year's past. They have two very solid players on the wings in Martin and Baldwin, but after that it is a drop off. Wideman/Fowler are definitely a step below Govan/Derrickson on the inside. Big boys, but not super skilled and can't step out like our 2. Their guard play is decent, but Jagan and Mulmore should have the upper hand in the open floor. Their PG is a kid who was playing at GW the last couple of years, but he is nothing special. They have a freshman Aaron Thompson who played at Paul VI and I think he is a very solid player, but just a freshman still and on the small side. Mosely will be able to use his size on both PGs.
This team was trounced by Maryland, Texas and Purdue already and most of their OOC wins are about as impressive as ours. Utah, Ohio State and St Louis are their only solid wins, and those teams are not what they usually are. Martin will be the best player on the court, but if we can contain him and hit some shots. We can win this one!
Hoya Saxa!

I predict it is going to be a battle. Would love to see our boys get hot and shoot the daylights out of the ball. Defensively, I feel we can hold our own.

To me you're underestimating Jorgensen, he's been very good for them this season.. He's shooting 43% from 3(29-66) plus he's only had 9 TO's this season.. Gtown fans would be on cloud 9 if we got that type of production from one of the guards.. Govan will be the best player on the floor but I agree that Gtown can win this game..

Those are great stats on Jorgensen. Honestly, I only watched them closely against Ohio State and Maryland and I don't remember him doing anything in those games. Those are impressive numbers and that TO number makes me very jealous of their fans.

Expecting us to have a fighting chance in this and a lot of other games. If we win its because of a few key buckets down the stretch, if we don't it will likely be a few key turnovers we would love back. Looking for this team to take that step forward in closing out games.

Big big big game. We'll find out whether we will be a factor in the conference after this game.

Big big big game. We'll find out whether we will be a factor in the conference after this game. IMHO, the biggest game this year and every year is SUcks, but I agree Butler will be a good barometer of where we stand in the BE. Merry Christmas to all.

www.fanragsports.com/rothstein-files-conference-play-primer/Butler: “The Butler Way” is a term that has connected different eras at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Lavall Jordan is hoping to keep that mark alive. The Bulldogs’ perimeter of Kelan Martin, Kamar Baldwin, and Paul Jorgensen is capable of filling it up against any opponent, but it remains to be seen if Butler can regain the type of toughness it showed defensively under both Brad Stevens and Chris Holtmann. Jordan is 10-3 as head coach of his alma mater and needs quality wins in the Big East after a non-conference run that featured a comeback win over Ohio State as its lone highlight.

Containing Martin is the key. He has big games against us. If we can do that, we should have a close game. Without the alphabet using his old man moves Govan should be able to stay out of foul trouble.
