I definitely agree with you that these are the types of games the Hoyas need to win, they have to establish a home court advantage.. To me you're underestimating Jorgensen, he's been very good for them this season.. He's shooting 43% from 3(29-66) plus he's only had 9 TO's this season.. Gtown fans would be on cloud 9 if we got that type of production from one of the guards.. Govan will be the best player on the floor but I agree that Gtown can win this game.. They are just GW West with 7th year senior Andrew Chravis. Isn't this what we always wanted? Inter-City rivalry. He graduated.

I think that the Butler fans are correct in stating that this is a game they should win and almost have to win if they are going to be relevant in the BE this year. The Hoyas have only been tested once and lost, the perimeter shooting has been poor, turnovers a problem and defense spotty at times. The difference is that the Hoyas are coming into the game with some legitimate BE talent that it is devalued by the past few years performance of the team and very low expectations even among their own fans. This makes them more dangerous than outside observers might understand. Now if the M & M boys, Dickerson and Blair cannot score, this will be a long, long night--or in the case of us out West a long, long afternoon due to this ridiculous early start.

I think we need to understand that whatever the results of this game, this is still a young, untested team and as the season progresses we should improve. I like some of the raw young talent on this team (Pickett, Blair, Walker) and the way PE has been "coaching up" this group and so, like most of you while I will be unreasonably elated if we win or dejected if we lose, I think we need to view this year as a work in progress and measure our success by how well we finish out the year and how well we are positioned for next year. That said LETS GO HOYAS!!!

Play like they showed against Syracuse and they have a good chance tonight.

the line started at -9, already bet down to -4 No offense but this is simply not true. It opened at -4 and has pretty much stayed there at this point.

Wasn't the whole cupcake schedule set up to win this game? This is one of the home games that we could "steal" on the schedule so it this wasn't the goal of the cupcake them I'm not sure what was. Unless it was to simply to inflate PE's record.

I imagine that tonight will be the first of a number of close games we will play in league play. In a lot of ways this is an important game for both teams. For Butler, it's crucial to get a road win over a team that is, on paper, likely the 8th or 9th place team in the league. For us, it's a chance to get a nice home win and get to 1-0 in league play. Butler figures to run in the middle to bottom of the pack in the league, so this is a winnable game for us.
I think the Big East is harder to predict than in recent memory. Villanova, Xavier, and Seton Hall have clearly separated themselves, but it appears that there may well be 9 competitive teams in the league this year. A couple teams will fall behind over time, though. I think tonight will give us a glimpse of what we might have this year.

I think it worked. This was to get our team ready, not only to build confidence from a coaching standpoint. Comraderie, rhythm and chemistry too! This I saw. This may have turned out to be a brilliant idea. I think Coach Ewing knows is why we have to believe in him on this imo. And I wouldn't go as far to say this is a "second chance."

Unless it was to simply to inflate PE's record. Patrick's philosophy was to play the soft schedule, with a young team that lost its top 2 scorers, to be able to gain experience with the offensive and defensive schemes, hopefully develop some confidence. It was not "to win this game". The schedule was historically weak, every one of us knows that.

I've said before, with the exception of games against the top 4, I think most of our BE games will resemble the Syracuse game. Aggressive defense catching our opponents off guard. Run up a small double digit lead and then hang on at the end. Poise will be very important for this young team.

Things I want to see vs. Butler:
- I want to see Kaleb, Govan and Marcus shoot more 3s than their respective 2.5, 1.5 and 2.9 3FGA averages. I'm thinking Pat has several surprises up his sleeves and an increase in 3FG attempts from these three is one of them.
- More Walker.
- Defensive strategy vs. Martin.
- Overall strategy to control TOs and rebounds.
- Two (at least) of our four guards play solid games; or play some Kaleb at 2 with Walker getting more pt. All 3s shot by the four guards must be from the arc, not Jason Clark range (Blair, I'm looking at you).
- Good crowd!
