We had a true point guard, but our fans ran our coach and Tremont Waters away. Hmmmm... Ready, set, go. If III had won some more games the previous few seasons he could have spared himself a whole lot of running. Now...can we drop the whole Tremont thing for good? I was responding to someone else's post but the truth hurts doesn't it. Fans were inpatient and didn't understand what a true point guard was and does!!!

Sucks to lose but when one of the worst 3 pt shooting teams in the nation suddenly shoots lights out from 3, and can't miss, there's not much you can do.

Disappointed but encouraged sums it up for me too. It's definitely going to be an up-and-down season, but I saw things that made me more impressed than over the previous eight games.

1) The first few possessions of the game made me wonder whether Georgetown would ever score - or whether they had practiced against the Cuse Zone, which I am sure they did. Nice adjustments by the Hoyas to take control of the game for a while. 2) Thought they stayed way, way, way too long in that zone in the second half. Cuse had two guys shooting well from three and GU wasn't stopping the penetration. 3) Guards played well in transition but in the half court the lack of dribble penetration and lack of three point shooting - all predicted - is going to be a big issue this year. 4) Flashing a big from the half court to the foul line is a standard tool to break a press where guards are under pressure. Didn't happen. Passing into the corner on the inbound is a standard way to get destroyed against a press. 5) Derrickson and Govan together are serious players. Very bummed at the loss. I think the team may have the talent to make an NCAA tourney run but won't because of the schedule won't allow them to get enough good wins and they will lose a bit. Lots of positives in terms of play in transition, passing, some big shots for much of the game. I thought the man defense was really good and if there is one thing that I would point at that was really head scratching was sitting in that zone. The defense was terrible the last ten minutes of the game and the overtime in that zone. The real problem right now is we have no depth behind Govan and Derrickson at the 4-5, but especially for Govan. Sodom needs alot of work. He always keeps his arms and hands down which negates his 7-3 and his footwork is completely off. He's been able to get by in high school based on being 7-3 but it's going to take this year and summer for him to be serviceable. I like Walker alot but he has had strep and seems buried on the depth charts right now. Hopefully this game will make them reevalutate and make him a priority in terms of getting up to speed.

Late coming up with my comments on the first game I have seen this year. I taped the game and then watched. So I have not read any comments yet.
The highlight of the broadcast was the Chinese unicyclist. JK.
Heck. We had them. We have a good team and we play exciting bball. The press bothered us, but when we broke it, we got some good baskets. Darn Slovakia and Canada! Who said they can't shoot the three? And who said we could? But overall, I was impressed with the Hoyas. And the play of the game is where Doc got called for his 5th foul, when it should have been a blocking foul; the defender was not set up. Great play by Jessie, Doc, and Jagan. Looking for two more wins until the conference begins. And let's practice breaking the press!

Only Battle & Brissett hit 3's today, it wasn't really a team effort.. I feel like Gtown should/could have done a better job running those two off the 3pt shot, make someone else beat you..

Have you thought about getting in touch with Pat and letting him know how important good point guard play is?

Bummed we lost...but NIT was the goal this season anyway. I'm relieved and hopeful the hoops talking heads can stop bantering about our schedule from now on.

Hate to lose, but can't be bummed. I believe that I saw actual signs of coaching, preparation, and a game plan. Not to mention effort. The team is physically limited, but came to play with a clue. That's bad?

FIFY On a positive note, I do think Moseley and Blair will be strong four-year rotation players. Impressed with Blair's passing today.

I agree that NIT was the goal at the beginning but after today do you really doubt that we could beat any team in the BE at home sans Nova? SH lost today at Rutgers. If we sweep DePaul we could be 9-9 after BE play. Win one tourney game and we'll get in. They'll want the story line of PE leading GTown back to the tournament.....

Eric Smith was also at the game. Not to hijack, but I'd be remiss not to note that Eric swished a 12 footer at the end of the half to put us up by 10 against Iowa in '80. He's autograph-worthy for any Hoya fan.
