They lose Bluett, Macura and two of their better bigs, Omara and the lefty (at a minimum)...those losses will have an impact

Seems like a dicey career move for Mack. Hold out success long enough at Xavier, he puts himself in the position to take over a true blue blood in good health when the retirement exodus begins. Now he has to re-establish Louisville, a program with a great history but recently largely due to cheating, as a top team in the ACC, a conference their relatively new to, with the Feds and potentially the NCAA circling with and a fan base that will not be happy not consistently competing for the ACC and National championships. Definitely not being set up for success there.

Shed no tears for Mack. He's at a point where he wants to chase the salary, and his agent's use of the press to drop his name into the 2017 Georgetown coaching search when it otherwise appeared he was never a contender suggested he was looking. A school will let a coach interview now and then but will not tolerate getting back in the job hunt a year after a pay increase.
Shed no tears for Xavier. This school has done a remarkable job in selecting coaches that exceeded that of their predecessor every time. Check this list of Xavier coaches in the last 35 years:
Bob Staak (left for Wake Forest) Pete Gillen (left for Providence) Skip Prosser (left for Wake Forest) Thad Matta (left for Ohio State) Sean Miller (left for Arizona) Chris Mack (left for Louisville)
They'll do fine.

Mack might of thought he was worth more to Xavier than they thought of him.
I mean... their track record of picking head coaches is pretty impressive. Astonishing.
Maybe he thought he was "low-balled", and they were okay with him walking, confident in their ability of making another good hire.
Who knows?
His in-laws are from and/or live in Louisville, so there is that.
As far as Wright. Seriously doubt he leaves Nova for another college gig. Maybe an NBA job, but I doubt that either.
Mack was just one of many that have one at Xavier. Nova is a bigger job with more stature in basketball circles. Wright is doing something different. Won a title already.
He is building his own legacy at Nova. Sure Rollie is a legend, but Wright is building his own legacy that won't be dwarfed by Rollie's success at Nova.

It would have made more sense if he had made the Final Four as the 1 seed. As it is, he failed and ran away from the challenge, I guess realizing he's not that good and he was losing alot of players and his value would never be higher.

What is going on at Louisville? Now there are reports that Mack's contract is not finalized? After he went on social media and told everyone he was leaving!!! They seem to be able to make a mess out of anything down there. Probably just some administrative issue but not a good look

Jamie Dixon left Pitt because the job at his alma mater, TCU, had opened up. Pitt didn't get rid of him. It is an indictment of how Dixon felt the future would be at Pittsburgh in comparison to TCU. They weren't necessarily sad to see him go. He kinda ran his course at Pitt. Granted it is Pitt, but they thought they could win bigger. Careful what you wish for, eh? Not sure about Capel either. The Coach K coaching tree is a mixed bag. Decent at VCU. Great success with Blake Griffin at Oklahoma, but then tanked after Griffin was gone. I think you are being polite describing the Coach K coaching tree as a mixed bag. Other than Mike Brey, who else has had success at a major D-1 program. Yes Tommy Amaker has carved out a nice niche at Harvard, but as was discussed last year on this board his tenure at Seton Hall and Michigan were nothing to write home about. Capel was already fired once at Oklahoma. Quin Snyder put Mizzou on probation. Johnny Dawkins has bounced around and struggled. The next 12 to 24 months are potentially either make or break for Wojo at Marquette. There is a vocal portion of the Marquette alumni base not thrilled with missing the NCAA tournament 3 out of his 4 years. Now to be fair to Wojo, Buzz Williams left him a complete mess to fix both on and off the court. I'd guess I'll ask this, do you view Jeff Capel as a better head coach than Tommy Amaker?

Probably just some administrative issue but not a good look I sense a power play by the board, reminding the new AD that he does not have absolute power, they do. It will be finalized in the next 24 hours and the AD will learn his lesson.

Don't forget Collins at Northwestern. You are right, I was being polite. Coach K coaching tree is not much outside of Brey. Amaker was average coach at Seton Hall and Michigan, the highest level of basketball. Capel was good only with Blake Griffin at the highest level with Oklahoma. So, I'd say Amaker is the better coach. Pitt is not an easy job with their high expectations and playing in the ACC. Maybe Capel learned something during his stint with Coach K. Now that I remember, he was never an assistant to K, only played for him. He coached with his father briefly then went to VCU as an assistant and then became the head coach. He became Coach K's assistant after getting fired from Oklahoma.

While Mack may not spend as much time as Pitino had in Florida, his new staff could focus more of their attention in Georgia and remain heavily involved in the Midwest and loaded DMV regions. How might his hiring at Louisville affect Tom Crean at Georgia? Patrick Ewing has been asked to land the top prospects within his area upon his hiring, but could the Louisville brand still ring in the D.C. area like it has recently? Indiana, Ohio State and Illinois just made their own coaching hires a year ago; does Mack have the confidence and ability to step into each state and compete with all three programs for their top in-state targets? Mack will have work to do, but sticking true to his recruiting plan and making the classes of 2019 and 2020 a priority, while grabbing a slew of sit out transfer and grad-transfers, might be the best avenue of success for the program. WHERE DOES XAVIER GO NEXT? Mack leaves Xavier as the winningest coach in school history, reaching the Sweet 16 four times and the Elite Eight once. The Xavier brass hoped that Mack would stick it out for the long haul thanks to his Cincinnati upbringing and his own time spent in a Xavier basketball uniform. Instead, the Musketeers are asked to complete another coaching search for the fourth time in the past 18 years. Just like when it hired Mack and Sean Miller, Xavier could look internally and hire Steele, a Midwesterner to the core that had spent all eight years on Mack’s staff. He has been crucial to Mack’s success and is regarded as a top recruiter, landing such Musketeers’ stars as Trevon Bluiett, Sean O’Mara, Paul Scruggs and Quentin Goodin. He also has much backing with the Xavier administration and upon his hiring, would likely keep such up-and-coming talent as Naji Marshall, Scruggs and Goodin on its roster for next season. If Steele does not get the job, the opening would provide a chance for some of the top emerging coaching talent to throw their names into the mix. Winthrop head coach Pat Kelsey and St. Bonaventure head coach Mark Schmidt, each spending time in the past as an assistants at the school, could receive a look. Xavier could look entirely outside of its family and take a peek at Loyola’s Porter Moser, Illinois State’s Dan Muller, and Buffalo’s Nate Oates. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/what-louisville-is-getting-in-chris-mack
