What do you think went into the thinking of letting Jamie Dixon go for Kevin Stallings? On the outside looking in that move does not make any sense. Jamie Dixon left Pitt because the job at his alma mater, TCU, had opened up. Pitt didn't get rid of him. It is an indictment of how Dixon felt the future would be at Pittsburgh in comparison to TCU. Yeah, but didn't Pitt lower Dixon's buyout to encourage him to leave for the TCU job? Yes he left for his alma mater, but the Pitt administration and fans seemed like they were hoping he would leave.

7 years is good but anybody else surprised that it's only 4 mill per season? For that headache? How much was Xavier paying him? I would have thought a minimum of 6 mil per season with bonus incentives laced throughout the contract. Another way to look at this is $28 million guaranteed. Hard to turn that type of guaranteed cash down. As much as we all want coaches and players to be loyal to their schools, I can't blame them for taking advantage of such a huge guaranteed payday. Xavier loved Mack as a coach lately but if he had a few bad years, where recruits did not turn out the way he expected and few players get hurt, then he is suddenly a bad coach and they are looking to replace him. It is a business and he is looking out for himself and his family.

Pitt was ready to move on. They didn't fire him, but they weren't sad either. Very mutual. Pitt was a notch or two below Josh Pastner+Memphis on the "How Happy Are We Our Coach Is Taking A New Job" scale.

The so-called death penalty is for repeat major violations, not the severity of a violation. Contrary to popular wisdom, it has actually been imposed five times, not once. Kentucky (Basketball, 1952) SW Louisiana (Basketball, 1973) SMU (Football, 1986) Morehouse (Soccer, 2004) MacMurray (IL) (Tennis, 2005) I could have sworn that Western University got the death penalty as well after the investigation resulting from Coach Pete Bell admitting all the various recruiting and payment violations (plus the point-shaving scandal from 3 years earlier). It's so crazy that he quit right after beating the then #1 ranked Indiana Hoosiers. Supposedly he's coaching at a small high school somewhere in the Midwest today. They had no hard proof, just the ramblings of a coach so unbalanced that the victory over #1 sent him into hallucinations. And Happy was smart enough to paper over the house, the job, even the tractor.

They weren't necessarily sad to see him go. He kinda ran his course at Pitt. Granted it is Pitt, but they thought they could win bigger. Careful what you wish for, eh? Not sure about Capel either. The Coach K coaching tree is a mixed bag. Decent at VCU. Great success with Blake Griffin at Oklahoma, but then tanked after Griffin was gone.

Booooooooooooooooooooo! Chris Mack traitor! Boooooooooooooooooooooooooo! (Throws tomato at his face) Why is he a traitor? He did what every coach at Xaiver has done before him the last 2-3 decades. Win and then go to a bigger job.

Pitt is learning the hard truth about trying to fit into the ACC (just ask BC; even Syracuse is learning, although the reality will fully hit them when they finally drag Magoo's cold dead body out of the Dome). I don't think Capel will ever do more than get them into the middle of the pack.

Although it would be somewhat surprising, I could not say it would shock me if even Wright left Nova for a place like Kentucky, Carolina or Duke if the opportunity ever arose.

So JTIII should still be coaching at Princeton? 😎 Family probably is equal to or trumps Alma Mater. What does Chris Mack have with Louisville. What do they have in commmon.

Lol regarding Magoo..

It is really hard to see. I think its the pros (if he has that itch to scratch) or a lifetime residency. I have nothing but hate for them, but he now has their program at a level that Kentucky, Carolina and Duke are aspiring to. They have been in the top 5 for the better part of the last few years, will have two national championships in that span, multiple BET titles, and even the jackasses at ESPN calling them a blue blood. Now excuse me while I throw up in my trash can. hm

Xavier has a very good nucleus of players coming back, I hope the AD doesn't mess this up trying to big time it..

I would have thought a minimum of 6 mil per season with bonus incentives laced throughout the contract. Another way to look at this is $28 million guaranteed. Hard to turn that type of guaranteed cash down. $28 million from a program with unrealistic goals and the Feds breathing down the program's neck. How does he recruit high level talent in these conditions? The new AD made a statement the other day (Paraphrasing) that the basketball program will be back among the elite where it belongs very soon. No mention whatsoever about the 2 level 1 violations that they have committed under Pitino. The University of Louisville is talking out of both sides of their mouth. If they didn't think the allegations about paying a recruit are true, why fire Pitino with cause? Now they are acting like there is nothing to see here and business as usual. Imo Louisville should have bit the bullet and gave Padgett a 4 year extension at a little over a quarter of what they are paying Mack and let him deal with all the fall out that is heading their way and then revisit the coaching situation after the hammer falls from the FBI and NCAA. In terms of Chris Mack, It's not like he wasn't already a multi millionaire and couldn't get a guarantee of something in the ball park in terms of years and $ from Xavier. I wonder if Xavier's brass got tired of his act every off season that includes letting Goodman pimp him out to the media and let him walk. The program has shown that it can not only survive, but thrive after these coaches leave for greener pa$ture$.
