When you get there 13 years in a row it sort of looses its lustre.

America's Team (the Atlanta Braves) If you have to tell people what team you mean by that, it isn't America's Team. The Braves can't even sell out in the playoffs. The problem is that they are "America's Team", but not Atlanta's team. I would Hazzard (ha, a little Bo and Luke Duke cheap shot) a guess that 95% of the hard-core Braves fans live far away from Atlanta (like maybe Fargo --darn WTBS Superstation got me hooked in 1976) Sorry, TBird--the Twinkies are only my second favorite team.

Lemme put it this way. No non-Braves fan has ever called it America's Team. Now I hate the Cowboys, but I can see their point.

Sorry, TBird--the Twinkies are only my second favorite team. That must have hurt in 1991 watching your second favorite team beat your favorite team. Can't say I minded ;D ;D ;D

Here we go!
The same tired back and forth on facilities vs. coaching vs. Esherick conspiracy theorists vs. "Three"ist worshippers? That's not really getting my motor running mid-June.
But the Braves/TBS? Now THAT'S a way to sidetrack a discussion on facilities, baby!!
Quite frankly, I'm shocked anyone even remembers that whole "America's Team" promotional stuff TBS used to do--how long has that been anyhow? The Andy Griffith Show rain delay years? They've actually gone to the "MLB on TBS" title in the past few seasons in order to make the broadcast seem more friendly to non-Braves fans in general. As my friend Jon the Pirates fan sarcastically says: "Yeah, so check the listings, maybe your team will be playing!"
I personally kind of found the "America's Team" thing lame. I hope Georgetown never becomes the "America's Team" good-guy type. Just winning would be fine. Hopefully our next 13 tourney appearances will net at least 1 title--hey, why not?
Although I do enjoy the extra intensity that comes with having lived in two areas where a large existing Braves fan base runs up against a "new" team's developing one (South Florida and DC/NoVa). Makes for decent rivalries (read: drunk people calling you stuff on the Metro).

Ok I've got to admit - I did live in Atlanta at one point - from 1983 to 1990 - I have watched the Braves on TV ever since and they have won a division title every year since I left Atlanta and every game of that has been televised for my viewing pleasure - although Tim Hudson blew the game early there were a ton of Braves fans at the game last night (Tim Hudson didn't really blow the game as I was keeping score and two questionable plays by Furcal - one scored a fielders choice and one an error were directly responsible for all 5 runs Hudson gave up, but who cares). The fact that the Braves are even competing with the roster that they have now is actually a testament to their coaching staff and Bobby Cox.

And to start up the facilties conversation again: GO FACILITIES!!! WOOO FACILITIES!!! I would take Facilities as the presumptive 5-3 favorite over coaching staff any day.

As noted theologists (and Braves pitchers) Greg Maddox and Tom Glavine said, "Chicks dig the long ball".
Maybe the greatest quote of all time.
