It would be great if he could also do some promotion to drive fan enthusiasm during the game. While this will and should come second to selling tickets, improving the atmosphere at games will help get people to come back again, home court advantage, and recruiting.

Winning cures all. Marketing can only do but so much. You need a product to push. If it is a winning product, the people will come. People like to be associated with winning.

Agree that winning cures all, but our ceiling is somewhat limited by competition from other area sports, small alumni base and studious student body. My roommate was in Lauinger Library during the '84 championship game. Some students just don't care about hoops- no matter how good we are.

Ultimately, we should be playing in a smaller, 8,000 to 10,000 person arena, but this is a pipe dream. Well then, buddy, have I got some good news for you. We're not all that far away from the day when the Hoyas kick off the season against American International at the beautiful new Leonsis Center on the campus of St. Elizabeth's Hospital (aka Government Hospital for the Insane).

Sadly, the capacity at the arena is slated at only 4,200. The taller, sloped elevation on the east side of the facility will hold the 4,200-seat arena, which will be the Mystics’ home court in addition to hosting, for example, boxing matches, local high school sports tournaments, concerts and other activities. www.bizjournals.com/washington/news/2016/11/16/updated-design-for-wizards-practice-facility-at-st.html

The local NBC affiliate here in DC ran Georgetown's promo for free tix for feds on its 6 pm sportscast. Said it was such a nice thing to do! No such thing as bad publicity, right? The local CBS affiliate also had the story of the free tix.

Might as well start mentally preparing yourself now for the kvetching that will ensue, coupled with hysterics about having to traverse into Ward 8.

Uncle Ted is doing us no favors, is he?

If Monmumental wants to exile Patrick Ewing's Hoyas to the south 40 of Barry Farm, pass. The Big East no longer requires the 6,000 seat minimum so McDonough is an option as is EagleBank Arena in Fairfax. Then, again, if they stopped playing 12 home games before January, this might be a step forward, too. The rent is the same no matter if it's Creighton or Coppin State.

One thing lost in all the talk about moving to a smaller arena is the fact that at least at Cap Arena you can always get a ticket to a game. And for someone from out of town it is easy to get to and a great place to find after game restaurants and entertainment. Assuming we return to national prominence, getting a ticket to many games may be difficult if we are playing in a 5-6k arena.

Can't you guys just say "Hey, Chris Grosse is doing a great job" without turning it into a grumpfest about attendance and Leonsis? We all know this isn't on Grosse, and that he's singularly the best sports promotions person they've ever had.
I had to sit through Brian McGuire telling us we were required to yell "Whoomp There It Is" after made threes. There's literally nothing more humiliating than being told you guys didn't "Whoomp There It Is" enough.

I wouldn't be making the comment here or in the other thread if it wasn't based upon personal observation. I'm an out of towner but make 1 or 2 games a year in DC, and 4 or 5 on the road over the last several years.I've been to every road venue from the old BE multiple times, and to most of them for non GU games, plus every BET we have ever played in. I think I can evaluate fan participation.

Hard for casual fans to get too pumped when we are fighting it out not to finish at the bottom of the conference. Plus, the play can be sloppy at times. When we start winning, the games will matter more to folks.

Then, again, if they stopped playing 12 home games before January, this might be a step forward, too. The rent is the same no matter if it's Creighton or Coppin State. This isn't strictly speaking true, I don't think - the level of service provided by the arena (concessions, security checkpoints, ushers, etc.) is significantly different between the bottom-of-the-barrel games, the run-of-the-mill ones, and the premiere ones. Granted, most of the costs of hosting a game there are fixed, not marginal, but there is likely some variation in rent. Yep. 8-10k is indeed a pipe dream, but Uncle Ted exiling us to Congress Heights for the Tempurpedic part of our schedule is a thing that is going to happen. Might as well start mentally preparing yourself now for the kvetching that will ensue, coupled with hysterics about having to traverse into Ward 8. I bow to your insider knowledge. Uncle Ted is doing us no favors, is he? No real insider knowledge this time around. I know the idea has been floated and I know that Theodore is starting to chafe at the costs associated with maintaining the arena now that it's entered middle age. His tolerance for loss leaders (hi, Washington Mystics) is dwindling. He's sympathetic to the school and the program, but he is a businessman first and foremost. It's not quite writing on the wall yet, but some outlines are starting to appear... There's some lemonade to be made out of such lemons, but I'm not sure we're adept to do the squeeze, unless Grosse gets another title bump or two in the interim.
