If Hopkins is cut from Magoo's cloth - any "transfers" will have the bottom of Hopkins's shoe imprinted on their back as they leave.

If he commits to Washington when he's right in our backyard and we graduate 3 pt GDs, I'll be very upset...he may not be a top 50 player, but he's a big time competitor, defender and would definitely be an asset at a position where we have an urgent need...and he'll likely get better...

Should have some news come our way around 8pm. Creighton and Washington both have Johnson and Marcus Zegarowski on there board for the PG spot, so far Marcus has Creighton as the favorite. twitter.com/MZegarowski1

This would leave him with a possible top five and IMO 4 at best!

If so they need to start looking for a backup plan and real quick like, all of the good ones are moving pretty fast.

We don't know what skills the staff/Pat values in a pg.

He can really shoot it... 41% from 3 this summer in the eybl, he went 57 for 137 in 21 games.. No wonder McDermott/staff loved him so much, nice fit for his 3pt heavy offense.. I went back and read articles after PE was hired, in a few he mentioned wanting to play a style that emphasized shooting the 3.. Unfortunately there hasn't been much follow up on that thought so it is hard to tell what the new staff covets in the backcourt..

Unfortunately there hasn't been much follow up on that thought so it is hard to tell what the new staff covets in the backcourt.. In pretty much every style played in college basketball these days, shooting is something all coaches are looking for from all perimeter players. Putting players on the floor that are not confident taking an open three really makes playing defense much easier for your opponents. The Hoyas had the issue last year when teams would give Jagan, and the other Hoya point guards wide open threes and they either would not take them , or could not make them consistently enough. That allowed teams to pack the paint and make it tougher on LJ and to overload toward Rodney. Coach Ewing has said he wants to play and NBA style offense and pretty much every NBA team now has a huge focus on taking, and making 3's. If the staff is not convinced Johnson is going to be a competent shooter at some point then maybe he is not a priority for them, but if that is the case they do need to go find a priority and work to get him signed. There is still a place on every team for point guards who are not great shooters, if they can excel at other parts of the game, (ie defense or breaking down the defense off the dribble) but adding another shooter on the floor seems to be a priority for most teams these days.

For those that have seen more than me (which is highlight vids and some game footage) is he that inept from outside? From what I have seen its not like he has a funy shot or weird mechanics, seemed like a solid delivery for the most part...

I'm sure he hears the criticism and is in the gym working on it... He's a gym rat

In many cases a player doesn't work on developing a skill because he doesn't need that skill to be effective in high school. Some kids are just so quick they can get anywhere they want at the high school level and never spend much time working on shooting 3's. I don't know enough about his game to know what type of shooter he can become, but it does seem lile that is one area of his game that has some people concerned. I am more concerned about the fact that Washington seems to be the favorite to sign this kid than if he has good range or not. Sounds like Hopkins has been recruiting the kids for a while and has a strong relationship with him. Hopefully staying close to home is more appealing to him than the relationship with Hopkins

LJ had a very suspect shot when he came in, but worked hard and improved from 24.6% to 40.9% in one season. Jabril went from 24.0 % to 40.7% in his career. If he has decent mechanics he will improve with work.

His mechanics are not good. I think shooting mechanics are overrated, but his mechanics don't seem to be repeatable anywhere on the court. If you can repeat your shooting mechanics going left, right, pullup, from 3 or inside, I don't really care too much what it looks like.
I'm still a fan and would take in a heartbeat. He is a relentless defender.
