Good detective work. Don't know why a basketball player would choose Nebraska.

“I have chosen Nebraska University,” he told MADEHoops. “The coaching staff is what stood out to me. Coach Miles and Coach Hunter have stayed in contact with me ever since they offered and they were one of the first schools to offer me. I also liked the relationship I had with the players, the educational resources they had, the environment and their player development.”
Nebraska has expressed to him that he will be a priority for them right when he gets there.
“I will make a big impact when I arrive at Nebraska,” Johnson said. “They want me to facilitate, push the ball and defend at a high level. They also think they can utilize my ability to get into the lane and create for others.
Best of luck to the young man..
Think it was a missed opportunity by the staff..

All this "wait and see" is for the birds. Players want their 15- minutes of fame in high school. I'd much rather deal with something more low'key. As someone said minutes ago, on to the next show! I hope he finds what he's looking for in Nebraska. The Hoyas will get a great player soon. The next player that schedules an announcement date, time etc. will be immediately dismissed by me. I dont if they don't care that I don't care. Let's catch the next bus.

I don't expect Tim Miles to be the Nebraska coach in April 2018. I hope we stay in touch with Xavier and his peeps.

Well the problem is as of right now there is no next. Maybe Christian Jones who is more of a combo guard? We are literally on nothing else that I am aware of right now. No recruit is a must have and this by no means will ultimately be the deciding factor if we have a solid 2018 class but you can twist this anyway you like... this was ty loss. Maybe YaBoy is right, that fans valued him more than staff, but this is a loss in my book.

I think Moseley will take a step up this year. We will need it.

Certainly not good news but not the end of the world. There are still late bloomers, spring signees, and decommments due to coaching changes.
He seems like a good prospect but his outside shot is questionable, and this may have hindered him in a four out offense if the shot did not improve significantly.
Also he commented that NU was on him early and regularly. I wonder when this started — we may have been hurt by the late hire due to need to fire JT3.

Okay, now that this is over, was anyone really all that sold on Johnson? Seemed like there were some serious holes in his game from what I read about him. Was the excitement for him really about his game, or just because he was the only PG apparently being pursued and we felt we needed a win?

I'm happy he chose somewhere else while still being sad we lost a local PG to Nebraska. It's seems impossible to think that with all the local PGs in 2018 we might not get any.

I never got the feeling the staff really prioritized Xavier Johnson and his game/upside like the fans on here (including myself). I still believe that Xavier wanted to be a Hoya but the staff didn't give him the warm and tinglies. No inside info, just tracking his behavior on social media. Maybe Coach Miles promise of immediate playing time/impact was enough to seal the deal while that wasn't Ewing's plan for him. Maybe the staff just didn't want him (all speculation on my part).
Anyways while it may sting some now, I look at it from another angle. I think the staff will be major players in the spring when other staffs are being shown the door and high major PG's are getting their releases or kids like Pickett are changing their mind. At that point Ewing and staff will have a season under their belt to show recruits the style of play and how they can be successful. Also the staff will have a much clearer idea of PG needs after coaching Mosely and Blair in game situations.
If the staff passed on Xavier Johnson which I suspect, then I commend them. Any College Coach will tell you, it's not who you don't sign that ultimately hurts you, it's who you do. If your not in love, don't get married.
