Notre Dame is a very good program. I think it is good to get some outside blood, but have absolutely no idea if this is a good hire or not. Anyone out there with more info?

Just got off the phone with a friend who was a Varsity Baseball Captain at ND. He told me that the new AD is, "a good guy", and "always seemed pretty cool." Looks like we're set. I kid, I kid. Thanks for nothing Domer friends...

Well, he is obviously smart and comes from a school that competes and succeeds in anything. And he is young and thus presumably hungry for success. I'd say at first glance this looks pretty excellent.

I really like the fact that he was in charge of sports facilities and has a basketball background.

1990 Graduate, puts him around 36 or 37- that is pretty young for an AD, maybe younger than Adam Brick? I like his credentials and I like what I have heard initially from our Domer friends. I also think his experience with facilities will be a bonus, although it is not like Notre Dame's buildings are too new.
Overall, I am sad to see Adam did not get the job, I like him personally, but new blood may be for the best. It will be interesting to see what happens to the current staff. Adam should absolutely be welcome to stay with the AD, but I have to think he might move on- he was practically gone 2 years ago if I recall correctly. This may also be the end for Kim Simons, she was Adam's right hand, brought back after retiring as women's lax coach.

ND's facilities are generally not new, but ND is scheduled to complete a massive new practice facility - somwhere on the scale of $20 million, I think - for the football program later this summer. As deputy director for athletic facilities, I have to believe he had a hand in putting that project together on some level. und.collegesports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/102203aad.html

I feel bad for Adam Brick, who did a fantastic job as acting AD, but I'm glad we have someone who appears competent and experienced. We need a steady hand right now. we might have a lot of rocks in the road coming up.

I talked to a friend who works in the Athletic Department. This guy apparently wowed everyone in interviews and in how he related to the staff intrapersonally. It sounds like Muir will not be afraid to promote those who know what's going on and let those go who don't fit with his vision of the future. Sounds like a really good hire.

Similarly, Muir has seen firsthand what an asset the Joyce Center has been to Notre Dame, so maybe he will be able to change the administration's mind as far as making the McDonough renovation a higher priority goes. What's most exciting to me is that Muir comes from an athletic program that is solid across the board, something that is mentioned below in the Big East Title thread. Hopefully Muir will be able to bring that kind of success to GU. Looks like the Athletic Department/administration have made an excellent choice. Good luck to Bernard in his new post.

If the football schools desire to break off and take Notre Dame with them, we have someone who may be able to put some pressure on the Irish to keep the status quo.

Let's just hope Bernard was not in charge of vetting football coach's resumes.

Thanks very much for the info, and I am sure we'll hear more. I like the fact that he earned the spot through a competitive application process. Generally, those work better than anything else in a hiring process.
At this time, I'd also like to express appreciation for Adam Brick. This year represented a major turnaround for GU athletics, and he had a lot to do with it.

This decision doesn't mean Brick is on his way out, right? He'll just assume his old responsibilities correct?

I don't think Brick should be forced to leave, but I would be shocked if he stayed too long. He has had other options and chose to stay at GU, but with a young new AD coming from outside the family, I think he will likely move on now.

Yeah that's what I think too Jack, I think the only question is if GU will attempt to keep him on campus by offering him a position elsewhere in the University i.e. working in the president's office, etc.

The press release did not mention Brick, which is a little surprising. His previous position (Assistant Director of Athletics - NCAA Compliance) was filled by former football coach David Holm earlier this year.

The story I read specifically thanked Brick, but left open his future. Was the PR different? A lot of places cut down the release.
