Mac's videos didn't give him any type of advantages recruiting wise and coaches aren't searching social media for prospects either..
The writer didn't do much homework on Mac's recruitment imo.. Not true Etomic! College Coaches at all levels use social media platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo, Hudl, etc to do initial homework on a prospect before going out to see them compete. They will watch highlight and full games online before watching them live particularly if it's an out outta area/region prospect. Now high D1 coaches aren't cold searching online hoping to find something but if their contacts tell them about a prospect, they are using it as an initial evaluation tool....In terms of McClung, he was already committed to Georgetown before he really blew up on social media. He had some internet buzz that he picked up playing with Team loaded VA but really really blew up during his senior year. The 1st part is what I was getting at and I do agree that a coach will use YouTube or Hudl or Vimeo clips to check a player out.. Although they are social media platforms, I don't view them the same way I do Instagram or Snapchat or Twitter even all of which seemed to be a big part of the article.. As you posted McClung's recruiting jump came after joining Team Loaded not from highlight clips..

McClung started going viral after a well done mixtape was made of his junior season and especially after a clip of a shirtless dunk that became #1 on Sports Center Top Ten Plays. That's when he started gaining Instagram followers. Now...did all of this happen before he joined Team Loaded?

Pretty sure the dunk you're referring to came after he changed his mind about Rutgers which would be well after joining Team Loaded..

His exposure did not come from Team Loaded. He wasn’t one of its top players.

His recruiting jumped after joining Team Loaded, it did not jump or give him a leg up because of his social media status as suggested in the article MCI posted..

We're not talking about why a random person knew about Mac. We're talking about why the Georgetown staff knew about him.

We're not talking about why a random person knew about Mac. We're talking about why the Georgetown staff knew about him. The beat writer who covers the Hoyas seemed to suggest, in her lengthy writeup of McClung, that the staff may have gotten their first inkling of McClung because of internet hype. Then again maybe she was trying to be somewhat flippant about the whole thing.

I NEVER tire of watching McClung. Thanks YaBoyNyP for the post. It makes me marvel at his athleticism - let's hope it translates to BE play. I definitely think he's amazing and it will!

One thing that's very noticeable is how much work he's done in the gym getting stronger and more explosive in the last year. Physically he looks like a different kid.

Right on the money. People forget he played a whole year with that #232 ranking and got a whole lot better - not marginally better - but a whole lot better. I believe his HS coach who says he is one of the top 5 guards coming in.

Looking at Mac's available highlights and games, and if we were to nitpick, I would say that his dribble sometimes is a little too far from his body. But, maybe it's just the stop&go moves he's trying to do. His practices vs. Akinjo will benefit him greatly and tighten up his dribbling; if not, James will pick him. The player who will benefit the most should be Govan. Going against Mac and/or James in practice should provide great teaching moments to improve Jesse's defense vs. penetrating guards.
