I've liked Hawkins since first seeing his film, but as best I can tell, we haven't shown any real interest in him yet. I'm not sure why. I can't be too disappointed given that our staff has been anywhere and everywhere this summer, clearly working their butts off on the recruiting trail. Maybe they're locked in on a different prospect or two at the same position or something. But Hawkins has been steadily climbing the rankings and has the attention of a lot of the usual suspects. I'm sure Mike Brey will be in touch soon, and if his trajectory continues so will Mark Turgeon, Jay Wright and Tony Bennett. I'm not sure why we wouldn't want to at least make an attempt at a Top 75 kid playing at Dematha. Seems like even if we didn't land him it could help us to continue building our relationships there. Maybe there's more than meets the eye that I'm not getting on this one, or maybe they just feel like they can afford to wait on him for whatever reason. WASHINGTON, DC. – Jordan Hawkins is near his breakout but already a handful of prominent programs have placed the four-star wing high up on their recruiting board. Following a strong showing at the National Hoops Festival on Sunday, Hawkins recapped his high school transfer, the one program standing out and the others in the mix. “I am enjoying it a lot,” Hawkins said about his first year at DeMatha Catholic. “The transition has been really smooth and the guys have been great and so has Coach (Mike) Jones.” Xavier has invested the greatest in Hawkins, he told Rivals.com, though Florida, George Washington, and Marquette are also heavily involved. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/rivals150-junior-jordan-hawkins-enters-into-a-priority-recruitmentDeMatha got a solid showing from junior Jordan Hawkins. Hawks is a high-level athlete with one of the best-looking jumpers in the country. He scored 14 points, had a pair of triples, and looked a little bit improved with the dribble. His upside is undeniable as he gets stronger and improves on his playmaking skills. 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Cancer-Research-Classic-Hunter-Dickinson-Michigan-Wolverines-CJ-Wilcher-Xavier-Musketeers-Purdue-Boilermakers--141682546/

One of the premier names at this year’s Virginia Phenom 150, 2021 6’4 Jaden House was one of the prospects that stole the show, as he showed a tremendous upside with a blend of length, size, and ability to control the action on the floor. House’s move to Middleburg Academy has been going well so far, as he has been able to showcase his array of skills on the court and it seems to be paying off. “I’ve definitely shown more range on my jumper, being able to shoot from farther outside the three,” House told Phenom Hoops. “And my role has been just being a leader, making sure that the team stays together all throughout the game.” Already holding multiple offers, House received word that another program would be joining in his recruitment, an offer that certainly felt good receiving. Assistant coach Akbar Waheed from Georgetown had been expressing interest in House for some time and on December 21, the Hoyas pulled the trigger and offered. “(It) felt good to get this one because of the way they play and just the atmosphere of Georgetown basketball,” House replied. “They just said that they want to get me on the campus as soon as possible and that they love my game with me being a strong guard and can play both the 1 or the 2.”Georgetown now joins his list of offers that also include James Madison, Old Dominion, Stetson, Howard, and Mount St. Mary’s, with each one saying different things from each staff. However, all of them absolutely love the “dog mentality” that House possesses on the court. 2. JADEN HOUSE, MIDDLEBURG 2021 guard Jaden House makes up just half of the Middleburg Academy backcourt and they're quite the lethal ones. House posted 31 points on 12-of-21 shooting against Western Branch (VA) to take home a bracket championship for his squad. He also dished out two assists and snagged three rebounds. House didn't hesitate to get to the rim and didn't settle very often for anything less than that as he played a big role in his team's 30-17 outburst in the fourth quarter. He'll be one to watch in Virginia's 2021 class with offers already from Georgetown, James Maidson, Howard, Mount St. Mary's, Old Dominion and Stetson. www.bigshots.net/news_article/show/1074770

Georgetown has been also recruiting me for a little bit of time now but after Patrick Ewing saw me vs. Our Savior Lutheran when I played, they said: “he is an aggressive scorer and we need that in the 2021 class; he is a flat-out dog” and that is why they offered me.

The aforementioned ‘Shootout’ gave Folkes a great first run with the Dragons, as the team decided to compete in both of the weekend sessions. They especially stole the show during the opening portion; I can recall over a dozen of college coaches sitting courtside to check out their games. Playing some of the most minutes as a lead guard, Folkes stepped right in to contribute as one of the team’s most important pieces and arguably the most athletic guard present in the gym. He plays with a blend of explosiveness and power to slice his way for paint touches and aggressive drives. His jaw-dropping hang time stood out greater than any other prospect I saw at that position. That style of consistently playing downhill transitions into Middleburg’s pace quite nicely and, right now, it’s pretty evident that Folkes will have a heavy role in bringing playmaking, scoring, and defense. Multiple people sitting nearby at the event, along with Middleburg head coach Joe Philogene, drew comparisons of Folkes’ game to that of Dennis Smith, Jr.; another gifted guard for the New York Knicks. It’s a good notion, one that the young Dragon won’t disagree with. “Yeah, everybody says that (comparison) actually. I can see it…I’m also trying to get my game similar to Ja Morant’s of the Memphis Grizzlies.” We’re only a little more than midway of 2019, and more work must continue to keep happening on a daily basis, obviously, but Folkes’ show-stopping performances to finish out the month of June should give him and others great confidence in what he can bring to the VISAA. Stepping into that classification will likely show a contrast to the public school basketball scene Folkes has been a part of for the last couple of seasons. Regardless, the results of his showing in the ‘Shootout’ more than satisfied in several ways. He appeared very comfortable with his new teammates, was able to face several private school foes that he should see again the future, and picked up two Division I offers from Stetson University and Old Dominion University on June 22nd; a Saturday of the event’s first session. Youngstown State has also already extended an offer, being Folkes’ first one attained on June 15th. “It (the ‘Shootout’) was fun and really gave players exposure. I think it showed myself and other guys what we still need to work on to get better, moving forward. Being with my teammates for the first time felt good…almost like we had all been playing together for a while. Nothing too new. I actually knew a little bit about the VISAA before coming to Middleburg but wasn’t sure at first it was right for me. I guess something just told me to take a chance and give it all a shot. I kind of knew it was time to try something different. As far as those offers, Old Dominion and Stetson told me they like how hard I play with energy. Youngstown State has actually been recruiting me for a while…it started during an open gym. They were the first program to show interest for a good amount of time before deciding to offer.” Interest from other schools has started to grown in notable fashion for Folkes as well, including Lehigh University, Liberty University, VCU, and Radford. The past month clearly proved as a great step in the guard’s recruitment but he also isn’t the only member of his newly high school squad to catch the eyes of college programs. A 6’4” fellow classmate, Jaden House ’21, is another new addition to Middleburg and picked up those same offers from Stetson and Old Dominion with Folkes in the midst of the ‘Shootout.’ In addition, Howard University recently offered the strong scoring guard on June 26th. Folkes has acknowledged the great chemistry between him and House on the court, as the two also compete for Team Loaded VA 16u in travel ball. When they both start to catch fire, it definitely becomes an entertaining viewing to watch. “I think we have a good bond on the court, for sure. Honestly, I feel like we can make a statement as the best 2021 backcourt in Virginia.” phenomhoopreport.com/prospect-talk-isaiah-folkes/

If we were to pick a MVP from the DMVElite80 event that was held this past weekend at Wise High School, the 2021 guard, Isaiah Folkes out of Middleburg would be at the top of the list to receive the award. The 6’3 guard was turning heads all day with his ability to score around the rim and he mentioned it was something he was working on and that definitely showed on Saturday. “My jump shot was not hitting the first game so I said let me just do what I am good at and get to the rim and try to dunk everything.” Folkes was really looking forward to this camp to show that he can play with some of the best from the DMV, “I am just trying to get exposure against some of the best players in the DMV and just show that I can play basketball.” When asked to describe his game when he is at his best, he said, “I am kind of like a playmaker, I can get to the basket, I can shoot open jump shots and I like to facilitate to my teammates and I think I can play really good defense.” Folkes his coming off a good summer where he saw himself land his first five offers, “My summer went well, ever since I made the transfer over to Middleburg I picked up five offers from Radford, ODU, Youngstown State, Norfolk State and Stetson so it was a very successful summer, I worked and played hard.” He broke down a few of those schools for us. Radford: “Radford seems amazing, I love the coaching staff, the bond with the team and it seems like a great campus, it seems like a really good environment.” Norfolk State: “I went there, went to their camp and after one of their camps they said I have a scholarship.” ODU: “I picked up an offer from them after playing at one of the live periods at Blue Ridge. Coach Stith, who is an assistant there seems like a great coach and I like his personality and I like how he fits with ODU.” Youngstown State: “I first met them after they came to a workout at Middleburg and then they wanted me to get on campus for their elite camp and then offered me after the camp. They said they are going to be recruiting me really hard.” www.prephoops.com/2019/09/recruiting-report-2021-isaiah-folkes/

Would have to assume they were both probably at the game last night also. Great game for the Hoyas for these young guys to see in person. Doesn't sound like they have many high major offers yet, so maybe the staff can build those relationships and be there early as these guys become more noticed.
