From the 25 runners in the men's 1500m 12 go to Eugene. Amos finished 12. However, the rules are the top five in each heat (2) go with the next two fastest. Amos was in the 2nd and much faster heat, so the time qualifiers came from his heat. Unfortunately, Amos was 12th in this heat.
Ironically, the runner with the fastest(surprise: a Kenyan) was previously disqualified because he showed up at the starting line without a number bib in his heat. I guess the DQ was appealed and he was advanced without running a step in his first round heat. I don't know if Amos would have qualified if the pace had been different without Justine in the race. Probably not.
