When I look at a question like this it comes down to projection and the evolution of the game of basketball. To me that makes Kofi Cockburn the most difficult player to evaluate in the class of 2019. If this was 20 years ago we'd know real quickly what to expect from Cockburn. He is a huge human who has good enough hands, can rebound his area, and has a decent touch in the paint. However we now live in a world of analytics, ball screen coverages, and pace and space offenses. Cockburn doesn't run the floor great and really struggles to move laterally where he will be exposed in ball screens in college. Add in that true post ups aren't real efficient ways to score, and it is tough to know exactly how effective a true old school center like Cockburn will be at the next level. Recruiting: Syracuse, St. John’s, UConn others scout.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/2019-Rankings-Most-difficult-evaluation-in-class-107758280

According to this article the only place he can play in college is Syracuse and their crap, development hindering and outdated zone defense.

IMO it is an absolutely ridiculous and shortsighted article. As if every team in the Association wouldn't take Shaq in his prime to play in today's NBA space and pace style. Imagine Shaq in his prime on the low block with Draymond Green trying to guard him? Not saying that Kofi Cockburn is the next Shaq. Time will tell and Kofi's already more offensively skilled at the his age than Shaq was at the same age. Not a slight on Shaq as less was asked of BIGs offensively during his high school development. Cockburn is also not yet the rim protector that Shaq was. In every situation there are outliers. In basketball Steph Curry's abilities as a shooter make him an outlier. Kevin Durrant size and skil set make him an outlier. Shaq's size, physicality and explosiveness made him an outlier. Cockburn's size and natural strength can aid him along with good coaching into developing into an outlier in both the college game and beyond.

Kennedy Meeks annd Przemek Karnowski just faced each other in the title game LAST YEAR.. Lol If there's a role for Kennedy Meeks on a team that just won a championship, there's a role for Kofi.

“Pat was a big guy and he tells me he knows the importance of the big guy getting the ball,” Memminger said of Ewing, the first-year Hoyas coach. “They make sure [New York native] Jessie Govan gets the ball. They play inside/out.”
Like Ewing, Cockburn is a native of Jamaica. He was born there and only began playing basketball seriously about three and a half years ago. “I always heard about him in Jamaica and stuff,” Cockburn said of Ewing. “If you’re Jamaican, basketball isn’t your first sport, it’s normally soccer.”
Asked what Ewing’s message is, he said, “I’ll see the footwork and he’s got great footwork. And that’s one of my strengths. I work on my low post moves. He just wants to get me better. He wants to improve me in basketball and help to get everyone better.”

Moses Brown for 2018...Kofi in 2019. Lets get the elite post man pipeline started Coach Ewing. I had wondered if the staff was still on him. This is great news.

He is also a fixture on the New York Rens, an AAU program that plays in the Nike EYBL, one of the prestigious events in the country. Last summer, on the 17U level, he averaged 11.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game for the Rens in EYBL. When asked about playing for them, Cockburn replied, “It’s the same thing basically [like Christ the King], it’s a bunch of guys that want to get you better on & off the court.” So far Cockburn’s junior season has been very promising and he has averaged 13.3 points in the team’s first ten games. At the present time, they are 9-4 overall and 5-2 in the CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens Diocesan league. When asked about this year, he replied, “It’s going alright, it’s going as planned, I just gotta stick to the root.” As far as his recruitment, he has attracted a ton of interest from major schools such as Georgetown, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Indiana, UCLA amongst others. Another thing about Cockburn is that he is a wise philosopher, unlike many youth his age. There is one major quote that he lives by. “If you do tomorrow what you did today, you’re going to get tomorrow what you did today, so every day you got to do something different to get progress,” he replied. Right now, Cockburn’s major goal is to lead Christ the King back to the city championship game, which they haven’t been in since 2015, when they last won a title, and also to get a state title in Glens Falls. With time, there’s no doubt that Cockburn will develop into a great talent. He is definitely a Division I talent. If he excels there, that could bode well for his future. When asked about where he sees himself in the future, he replied, “Well, just getting better, being a better person and to continue winning.” davesjoint.net/2018/01/13/kofi-cockburn-native-of-jamaica-makes-his-presence-felt-royally-in-nyc/

One day Pat will reel in a top big. I just hope it's in the '18 or '19 class.
