This season's Nov/Dec schedule is a minor, minor issue in the larger world of Georgetown men's basketball. IMO, the disheartened (but passionate!) fans complaining so much about the schedule are overlooking the important things that Coach Ewing is trying to accomplish. Important things: - Teammates not giving up on each other in January/February, as sleepy said - Playing hard for 40 min every game - Learning to play solid, disruptive defense - Learning Coach Ewing's offense - Giving the new coach some time to settle in and learn the nuances of this flavor of his craft - Improving game by game so that the team plays better in March than they did at any other time in the year - Creating a foundation of confidence in the team and the coach, both for players and fans - Experiencing some success in order to have something to build on for following seasons - Creating a positive overall environment so that quality recruits will want to join the team Bemoaning a soft schedule in this season of so much transition is like complaining about the fire department trampling your flowerbed when they come to put your house fire out. People on talk boards complain for weeks about how we missed a FT in the 14th game of a 30 game season. I think it's okay to discuss the entire 2017-2018 schedule and still be able to put Georgetown basketball in perspective.

The NCAA is granting waivers to allow schools to play an exhibition game against a D1 opponent with proceeds going to hurricane relief (e.g. Albany is playing at West Virginia). Result won't count in record. Any chance we would do this?

Result won't count in record. Any chance we would do this? Almost none. Three reasons: 1. Georgetown hasn't hosted a public exhibition game in almost 20 years. When was the last Ft. Hood game, anyway? 2. Were Georgetown to do this, they would want a home game. McDonough can't raise very much money given its configuration and they're not going to rent Cap-One Arena for it. 3. Georgetown is not enough of a ticket draw for a big arena to invite (see "American Airlines Arena, December 2016"); and again, it would interfere with the not so secret scrimmages GU want to play at home.

It's an exhibition game & more importantly it's for a good cause.. I really hope playing a road game isn't at all a deterrent for Gtown..

Maybe the CapOne arena could cut a break on the rent for a charity game?

Yes, my opinion is that if you can make the special D1 exhibition, go for it. If anything, our team is green - the more practice in a game setting the better. And it truly is win-win, since it doesn't count.

I’m still so frustrated with the schedule. It just reeks of awfulness. Glad the coaching staff is producing in other areas but this OOC schedule just plain sucks.

Well, he was 0-10 from three last year with the Hoyas, so 0-6 shouldn't be that unexpected in his first game for the Huskers.

He's a finesse player who likes to hang on the perimeter. If he can't shoot at a high clip, he will not get many minutes. Confidence may be a factor.

I remember his stroke in one of his best Hoya games against Duke at MSG (a pox on Grayson Allen!), and it really looked like we had a player. Something happened along the way.

Gets a P grade. That's not for pass, it's for putrid. Please let it be this year only.

Woof. I'll be at the Mount St. Mary's game so at least that one is one of the tougher OOC opponents lol.

Who the heck cares about these moronic computer numbers? If we are on the NCAA bubble this year, and the schedule is a "problem" at that point, it will be a good one to have. Play the games on the schedule and win. As fans we should concentrate more on supporting the team than nitpicking the schedule. I wonder how many fans ever have put together a college basketball schedule, as a new coach, in the midst of rebuilding. It seems so easy from behind a computer screen. Give it a break.

I wonder how many fans ever have put together a college basketball schedule, as a new coach, in the midst of rebuilding. It seems so easy from behind a computer screen. Give it a break. I support the team. Completely. I've been peripherally involved in putting together a college basketball schedule, in conjunction with a new coach that was rebuilding a program (no, I wasn't that new coach, or even an assistant). For what it's worth, it WAS easy. Virtually any mid-major team is willing to play a home-and-home against a major conference team (that is, they'll schedule us if we are willing to play them away once), and most decent low major programs are willing to play a guarantee game in DC (since it's actually difficult for those sorts of teams (like a Monmouth for example) to get guarantee games). Our shared arena situation complicates things for sure, but that complication is far from insurmountable given the number of mid-major and low-major teams that are in the area. That said, and as I've said previously, I'm willing to provide a pass in year one if this schedule was the result of not getting ducks in a row soon enough. Unfortunate, but forgivable. And even if it was intentional, I'm willing to provide a pass if it results in meeting whatever goals the staff had when they put it together (a decent record to drive recruiting, confidence for the team, playing time for young players, time against bad opponents to figure out Xs and Os and rotations, etc.). I don't completely agree with it, but I'm more than willing to be proven wrong. So all that is fine. The big problem I have with your comment is this: If we are on the bubble for the NCAAs and don't make it because of the schedule, that would be most definitely a very bad problem to have. The opposite of a good problem. Any time you have a chance to make the NCAAs and don't because of something utterly controllable like your non-conference schedule, that's a problem. I get that we'd be optimistic for the future given those hypothetical results, but it'd be a missed opportunity. The difference between the national attention the program would get for making the NCAAs in PE's first year and "just missing" would be astronomical.
