These hires are now of the utmost importance. Maybe he'll pull a rabbit or 2 out of his hat

This is also a place where we cannot afford to lose a whole lot of time, because the live recruiting period starts in a few days. Shammond Williams sounds pretty good to me, if it's possible that he could bring 1 or 2 of those Western Kentucky recruits with him. That, re-recruiting Waters, and keeping everyone else would make us better next year than we thought possible...

He'll need to get guys who know how to run a college program, guys who have (local) recruiting connections and can get talent here ASAP, and even a hungry guy who has HC aspirations of their own.
I understand why people want to keep guys like Broadus but the fact of the matter is we're in this position in part because of our old assistants. Not saying we don't want them at all but we should at least explore other options.
I like some of the names that have already been thrown around - Kenny Johnson, Shammond Williams, and Rod Strickland all have appeal. Johnson has great local connections, specifically with Team Takeover. Chris Lykes and DJ Harvey are the jewels of the TTO family this year, and VJ King played with them the year before. Derrickson, Campbell, Jason Clark and Mikael Hopkins are all alumni, too. I know Raphael Chillious just took a new position at UConn but that doesn't mean we can't still hire him, he's also an ace recruiter AND has local connections. 2018 5* PG Immanuel Quickley out of Baltimore dropped Washington off his list largely due to Chillious' departure, whereas they had been the favorite to land him.
I know Mike Jarvis is old but with his connection to Ewing, he may be considered. It could be like Gene Keady at St. John's. He would not be expected to do any off-campus recruiting - that would allow PE Jr to do so - while giving Coach insight into how to run a high-major DI program. He could even fill PE Jr's role as DBO to give Jr a spot on the bench, or there could be an understanding that Jarvis would only be in the role for a year or two before Jr takes over as a bench coach.
Dalonte Hill has not been involved in college coaching since his most recent DUI, but I've heard rumors of him returning to Huggins' side a few times. He helped right the ship at UMCP with his local connections, but of course Curtis Malone doesn't wield the power he once did (LOL!). In addition to his rep as a recruiter, he has a pretty good offensive acumen. DC Premier, the rebranded DC Assault AAU squad, is on the UA circuit, so that may be a no go.

UConn is having a tough time. Another player transferred today. Maybe Ollie doesn't make it that long and Ewing could poach Chillious.

Technically Daniel did not post any rumors, in violation of board rules. Perhaps the rules need to be amended to prohibit SOLICITING rumors.

I think Strickland is a no brainer. Also how about Keith Stevens from Team Takeover. Someone's going to make him an assistant coach at some point, why not GU?

I wrote on it in the other thread, but, speaking as someone who was, putting it mildly, reluctant on Ewing, his staffing decisions are his first chance to make an impact (on me at least). As I see it, the 2017 recruiting class and the 2017-2018 season are just a complete wash. It's impossible to really draw anything on Ewing's ability from how he handles either. But it is possible to get a sense of what he can do from the staff he is able to hire. Plus, it'll be a good test for where Georgetown is in terms of changing the program. I don't get the sense that we have historically been willing to pay big money for assistant coaches. If Ewing is going to be a success, I think he will need the freedom to associate himself with a top tier staff. And these staffing decisions will say a lot about the program he hopes to run.
There are a lot of names that intrigue me. Obviously, Kenny Johnson is a really exciting possibility. He has the benefits of being an incredible recruiter, from the DC area, and has worked under Pitino, who is, despite his many faults, probably one of the best tactical minds in the college game. I think hiring him would be an absolute home run, and that would definitely start to get me excited about the direction of the program. Similar deal with Orlando Antigua. Ultimately, if Ewing gets some coaches of that caliber on board, I will be intrigued and excited about the potential at least.
Ultimately, I would like to see us bring in some assistants whom you would expect to find on the bench at Kentucky, or Kansas, or Duke. I want assistants who have experience going toe to toe with those schools and beating them for top talent. At this early point, I'm still not sure how realistic that is. But, if Ewing can get that done, I'll be impressed.

The class of 2017 is not a wash. Tremont Waters is still available, but NC State also lost a 4* PG in Thomas Allen (Brewster Academy - JaKarr Sampson, CJ Fair, and Jeff Adrien highlight alumni we've played against) only to land VCU-commit Lavar Batts two days ago. Another VCU recruit, Mayan Kirr, a Top 100 center, has asked the school for his release. Washington lost their 4* PG recruit, Blake Harris, and he's an East Coast kid, when they axed Lorenzo Romar.
With coaches getting fired or taking other jobs like Wade at VCU, there are still talented kids available who aren't committed currently. I have no disillusions about getting in with Kevin Knox or Trevon Duval at this stage, but why not Malik Ashton-Langford, formerly of UConn's class?
There's no need to have the attitude that we're punting on this class.

Jerome would be a great hire. Are we not considering anyone from the outside even for assistant coach? Are we just running a fantasy camp program?

It would be really nice to nail at least one person down before tomorrow so that they could appear with Ewing at the press conference. And, more importantly, get out on the trail for the live recruiting period. I suppose Patrick Ewing Jr. could do that temporarily with his father until they get assistants in place (PE Jr. did that last season under similar circumstances), but it's not ideal.

Don't assume they are not nailed down just cause they aren't announced. Nothing will be said before Coach is officially introduced.
