What would have happened in 95 if Butler had stuck around? Do you think that might have pushed us to the regional final? It would have probably been worth a game or two during the regular season and maybe a 4 or 5 seed, or even a 3 seed. But I guess this wouldn't have improved the third round matchup much. But could we have hung with UNC in 95 with Butler? That team is so enticing in retrospect. Five NBA ballers (long time ballers too) that got utterly blasted by the Heels. And Tony Womack absolutelly blows. I hate him.

And Tony Womack absolutelly blows. I hate him. Butler was good, really good. He wasn't as above the rim as Victor Page, but he was great player and he had more polish to his game. Butler single-handedly won that game against Memphis in overtime after Iverson had fouled-out in regulation. Without Butler, the Hoyas miss the NCAA tournament for a 2nd year in a row in 1994 instead of making it to the 2nd round and being beat by Arkansas. I don't know if we would beat UNC with McGinnis, Stackhouse and Wallace. But, we may have met UNC in the final 8 instead of the sweet sixteen if we had Butler. I use to always get nervous when G'town had a super talented player. I wasn't suprised that Butler left because everytime G'town had a great player with talent, he always "mysteriously" left or transferred (Graham, Anthony Tucker, John Turner, David Edwards, Duane Spencer, Kenny Brunner, Shenard Long, Demetrius Hunter, Victor Page, ). LOL!! ;D I could go on and on.

didnt butler get caught cheating? I didn't know what the reason was. G'town never discloses reason. I just know he was gone. What did you hear?

Wasn't he also the one who, when a professor asked him to stop reading the newspaper during his class, declined because he was reading about himself?

I believe Butler left because he played hooky from class a few too many times for Thompson's taste. I'm positive he didn't leave on his own terms.

I had heard (granted, not first or second hand) that he might have been "intimate" with another's player's girlfriend as well.
Does anyone else remember that?

The guy got caught cheating and he had a choice of going through the adjudication process or transfering.
The legend goes that both the men's and women's teams had a "file" of exams/papers etc. that they could take a look at/use for certain purposes.
George decided to take a paper and submit it as his own. However, he messed up and submitted a paper that described his life as a woman up to this point in his life.
Highest of high comedy. I laugh thinking about it right now...great game against Memphis though.

George Butler was the best -- he was out at the Tombs at least 2-3 times a week, to which I always thought "How does he balance School, Hoops, and going out as much as he does?" Apparently the answer was "Not very well."
Anyone know where he is now?

Butler got caught cheeting, they gave him another chance and he got caught again. Butler was a hard worker on the court and when i saw him at yates once, when the other guys were fooling around doing half court shots between pick up games, he was doing sprints and sit ups. When he wasnt on the court he was drunk (god bless him).
I saw him moments before he entered a final, i was sitting outside ICC next to a friend who was in Butler's class. Butler came up and showed my friend his blue book with a pre-written essay and asked my friend if it looked good for the final. Hearing what he wanted to hear, he went in to "take" the final. That apparently wasnt one of the times he got caught either.
