On Monday, Jamie Dixon and TCU picked up a commitment from USC transfer Charles O’Bannon. A redshirt sophomore, the 6-foot-6 wing has scored a grand total of 20 points in his college career and had a minimal impact at USC. So, why is there reason to believe that O’Bannon can turn things around in Fort Worth and become a Big 12 contributor? Well, in case anybody forgot, O’Bannon Jr. was a McDonald’s All-American coming out of high school who ranked No. 43 overall in the class of 2017. Obviously, he’s not played anywhere near that level to this point in college, but there’s also no doubting that he does have talent to go along with good positional size. After sitting out for transfer he should be healthy and hopefully refocused to go out and prove that he’s not a bust. There is really no downside here if you are Dixon. If O’Bannon doesn’t get it together for the Horned Frogs he’ll only have one-and-a-half seasons left to play and will be in and out in a short time. But, if he can return to anywhere near the level that he was coming out of high school then he could be a real difference-maker for TCU. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/three-point-play-teams-to-watch-stall-ball-charles-o-bannon

1. Seth Towns, 6-foot-7, 215 pounds, SF, Senior, Harvard (GRADUATE) The 2017-18 Ivy League Player of the Year, Towns missed the past two seasons due to knee injuries. If he's healthy, he's the clear-cut No. 1 player on this list, especially because he should have two seasons of eligibility. He averaged 16.0 points and 5.7 rebounds and shot 44.1% from 3 in 2017-18.
2. James Akinjo, 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, PG, Sophomore, Georgetown Committed to Arizona Akinjo was the Big East Freshman of the Year last season and was off to a strong start as a sophomore before abruptly leaving after seven games. He averaged 13.4 points and 4.4 assists this season.
3. Mike Smith, 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, PG, Senior, Columbia (GRADUATE) Smith is going to graduate and transfer after the season, and he has put forth an impressive season for high-majors to watch. He is averaging 21.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists and shooting 41.1% from 3 through 15 games.
4. TJ Starks, 6-foot-2, 208 pounds, G, Junior, Texas A&M Committed to Cal State Northridge Starks was suspended indefinitely earlier this season and left the program on Nov. 25. He averaged 12.3 points and 3.5 assists in 2018-19 under Billy Kennedy.
5. Josh LeBlanc, 6-foot-7, 215 pounds, PF, Sophomore, Georgetown Committed to LSU LeBlanc, a bouncy forward from Baton Rouge, is returning home to play for Will Wade and the Tigers. He averaged 9.1 points and 7.3 rebounds as a freshman but saw his role take a hit this season. Still, he averaged 7.2 points and 1.3 blocks in six games.
6. Carte'are Gordon, 6-foot-9, 230 pounds, PF, Sophomore, DePaul Gordon left Saint Louis for DePaul in January, then left DePaul in August without playing a game. The former ESPN 100 prospect averaged 8.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 13 games last season.
7. Makhi Mitchell, 6-foot-10, 235 pounds, PF, Freshman, Maryland The former ESPN 100 prospect transferred from College Park along with his twin brother, Makhel. Makhi averaged 3.0 points and 3.3 rebounds in 12 games with the Terrapins. He's a big-bodied interior presence. Georgetown has been among the rumored potential destinations.
8. Patrick Tape, 6-foot-10, 232 pounds, PF, Senior, Columbia (GRADUATE) Tape is redshirting this season and will graduate and transfer. A highly efficient offensive player, Tape averaged 11.3 points and 5.9 rebounds in 2018-19 while shooting 66.7% from the field.
9. Zack Bryant, 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, SG, Junior, UAB Following a productive first two seasons at UAB, Bryant was dismissed from the team in December after three games. He averaged 14.9 points and 3.9 assists last season.
10. Dahmir Bishop, 6-foot-5, 178 pounds, SG, Freshman, Xavier A four-star prospect coming out of high school, Bishop saw his minutes decrease in the month of December. Only a freshman, he showed scoring ability as a member of the 2019 class and is likely to head back to the Philadelphia area. He averaged 1.6 points and 2.5 rebounds in 10 games.
11. Brendan Barry, 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, PG, Senior, Dartmouth (GRADUATE) Barry suffered a season-ending injury in September and entered the transfer portal a few weeks later. A knockdown perimeter shooter, he averaged 13.2 points and made 44.5% of his 3s last season.
12. Devonaire Doutrive, 6-foot-5, 180 pounds, SG, Sophomore, Arizona Committed to Boise State Doutrive was dismissed from the program early in the season. He opened the season with 12 points against San Jose State but totaled seven points in his next two games.
13. Deshawn Corprew, 6-foot-5, 210 pounds, SF, RS Sophomore, Texas Tech The well-traveled Corprew was suspended in June and left the program in September. He's talented and versatile and averaged 5.0 points for the national championship runners-up last season.
14. Amanze Ngumezi, 6-foot-9, PF, 235 pounds, Sophomore, Georgia Ngumezi got off to a strong start this season, scoring 16 points in a win over Delaware State. But he was suspended indefinitely in early December and entered the transfer portal just before Christmas. He averaged 6.1 points and 2.4 rebounds in seven games.
15. Samari Curtis, 6-foot-4, 190 pounds, SG, Freshman, Nebraska Curtis will make his fourth commitment when he ends up at his next destination. Once committed to Xavier and Cincinnati, he played just eight games before leaving Nebraska. He averaged 1.8 points.
16. Charles O'Bannon Jr., 6-foot-6, 220 pounds, SG, RS Sophomore, USC Committed to TCU O'Bannon's career hasn't gone as planned thus far. Considered one of the top 30 recruits in the country coming out of high school, O'Bannon has scored 20 points total in two-plus seasons with the Trojans.
17. Kai Toews, 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, PG, Sophomore, UNC Wilmington Toews is expected to sign professionally in Japan, but the Tokyo native entered the transfer portal, so he gets a spot in the rankings for now. The quality point guard was averaging 5.5 points and 4.3 assists after finishing second nationally in assists last season, with 7.7 per game.
18. Myron Gardner, 6-foot-6, 222 pounds, PF, Freshman, Georgetown One of four Georgetown players to leave the program, Gardner provided an interior presence for Patrick Ewing and the Hoyas. He would have three years of eligibility remaining, and he averaged 3.1 points and 2.9 rebounds.
19. Galen Alexander, 6-foot-6, 227 pounds, SF, Junior, Georgetown Alexander started his career at LSU, then went to junior college before ending up at Georgetown for nine games. He showed flashes in the first half of the season but left along with three other Hoyas. He averaged 4.2 points and 2.7 rebounds.
20. DJ Williams, 6-foot-7, 215 pounds, SF, RS Senior, George Washington (GRADUATE) Williams was expected to leave after last season, but he graduated at the semester break and should be eligible immediately. He averaged 13.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in 2018-19.
21. Jake Killingsworth, 6-foot-5, 205 pounds, SG, Senior, Columbia (GRADUATE) He played just two games in 2017-18, so Killingsworth had one year of eligibility remaining -- and will use it next year, after playing his final season at Columbia this year. He is averaging 7.5 points and 5.9 rebounds and shooting 36.9% from 3.
22. Tobias Howard, 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, G, RS Junior, Towson (GRADUATE) Howard is sitting out this season and will be eligible to play next season as a graduate transfer. He averaged 10.2 points and 2.5 assists last season.
23. Dajour Dickens, 7-foot, 215 pounds, C, Junior, Old Dominion Dickens is on here only because of his size and defensive ability. He started his career at Providence before transferring to Old Dominion. He was averaging 3.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in just 16.9 minutes.
24. Eli Wright, 6-foot-5, 175 pounds, SG, Junior, Western Kentucky Wright transferred from Mississippi State to St. John's, sat out last season and then transferred to Western Kentucky in August. Now he's leaving the Hilltoppers. He averaged 3.0 points in 2017-18.
25. Blake Harris, 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, PG, Junior, NC State Harris left NC State in late October due to "unspecified personal reasons." He played in 30 games as a sophomore, averaging 3.1 points and 1.5 assists.
26. Issac McBride, 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, PG, Freshman, Kansas Committed to Vanderbilt McBride left Kansas in October, but the Jayhawks could have used a backup point guard and ball handler behind Devon Dotson. McBride was a four-star prospect out of Arkansas in 2019.
27. Galen "Tolu" Smith, 6-foot-10, 240 pounds, PF, Sophomore, Western Kentucky Committed to Mississippi State Ben Howland struck quickly with Smith, who left Western Kentucky in the summer and enrolled in Starkville in September. He averaged 3.3 points and 2.6 rebounds in 34 games as a freshman.
28. Mayan Kiir, 6-foot-9, 208 pounds, PF, Junior, South Florida Kiir signed with LSU out of high school, then transferred to South Florida. He averaged 4.7 points and 2.7 rebounds last season but left the program in mid-November.
29. Luke Anderson, 6-foot-7, 212 pounds, F, Freshman, Iowa State Committed to South Florida Anderson left Iowa State before the season started, after it became clear that he wasn't going to be a factor for the Cyclones this season. The Florida native was a four-star recruit in the 2019 class.
30. Rade Kukobat, 6-foot-9, 225 pounds, PF, RS Junior, Eastern Illinois (GRADUATE) One of the few graduate transfers available in the portal, Kukobat is 6-foot-9 and averaged 7.6 points and 4.8 rebounds last season. He left the program just before the season started.
31. Makhel Mitchell, 6-foot-10, 235 pounds, PF, Freshman, Maryland Mitchell transferred along with his brother, Makhi, shortly after Christmas. Not as highly-touted coming out of high school as Makhi, Makhel averaged 1.0 points and 2.3 rebounds in his 10 games with the Terrapins. They're likely a package deal.
32. Shaun Williams, 6-foot-3, 170 pounds, SG, Sophomore, Kansas State Williams was suspended to start the season and left the program in December, but he provided some scoring pop in the few games for which he was on the court. He had 10 points in a loss to Bradley and averaged 3.6 points.
33. Marcedus Leech, 6-foot-5, 165 pounds, SG, Freshman, Iowa State Like Anderson, Leech left the Cyclones just before the season started. He was also a four-star recruit in the 2019 class and should be able to find a new home fairly easily.
34. Justin Mazzulla, 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, PG, Junior, George Washington Committed to Vermont Mazzulla played a key role on last season's GW team under Maurice Joseph, but he saw his minutes and production take a big hit this season. He averaged 8.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 2018-19.
35. Skyelar Potter, 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, SG, Sophomore, Wright State Potter opened the season with 19 points in 21 minutes but couldn't match that production before entering the transfer portal in December. He ended up averaging 6.4 points and 3.1 rebounds but shot better than 40% from 3-point range.

For the grad transfers it's worth noting the blue bloods are definitely going to be involved. As much as we seem like an ideal fit for some of these guys due to playing time availability, if any of the blue bloods miss on a position in late recruiting, they're going to pick off the top guys here.

My dream: 1, 3, and 8 on this list and try to get one more 2020 commit Getting one would be a win and more realistic. Two would be a big win. In addition, I know that Barry (#11 on the list) has at least been mentioned directly to Ewing as a possible player to look at.

He committed to TCU. We need some good news from somewhere, sigh.... Yep. Hopefully one of the Ivy League guys decides to come here. At least. I still think former Ivy League POY Seth Towns is someone the staff needs to look at. I think he could really help. These guys will help. Hopefully some good news comes soon.

Is there any particular reason why GW's DJ Williams is not under consideration. I know next to nothing about him. His statistics, size and position suggests he would be a good fit. He would be an asset if he fit in. Is there thought he would upset the chemistry? Or just not needed? Does anyone have any insight?

It appears to me he has 1 year of eligibility left, not sure why he would give up 30+ games for 16+. I'd wait until the summer to decide if I were him...

My dream: 1, 3, and 8 on this list and try to get one more 2020 commit Getting one would be a win and more realistic. Two would be a big win. In addition, I know that Barry (#11 on the list) has at least been mentioned directly to Ewing as a possible player to look at. Agreed, any of Towns, Smith, Tape, or Barry would be great additions to the roster for next year. But it's important to remember that though they make a lot of sense for us, there'll be a lot of competition. Grad transfers are so low risk, they play immediately and if they don't pan out you're basically just rolling the scholarship over to the next class. I think there will be plenty of competition for all of these guys. Towns I think will be able to go almost anywhere he wants. Immediate playing time is a factor in our favor, as is the combination of academic prestige and high major basketball that we offer considering that these are guys who are coming from the ivy league. But it will be a battle to win them. My hope is that learning under Ewing and joining the Georgetown big man tradition is appealing to a grad transfer big like Tape, and that they'll sign up to slide into Yurtseven's spot. If we combine that with maybe one or two more additions from seniors (ie. Kobe Clark), and we return McClung, Pickett and Blair, suddenly the roster doesn't look all that bad. And at that point, hopefully a high level grad transfer point guard like Smith or Barry sees us as an opportunity to take the reigns of a pretty solid overall team. A lot of things have to go right, but there's a path. A starting lineup of Smith/Barry, McClung, Blair, Pickett and Tape with a bench of Wahab, Sibley, Clark, Harris, Ighoefe and Wilson should at least be competitive. It probably needs at least another wing and somebody who can shoot, but it's at least respectable.
