I just want a small taste of the early 80's again.

Think I'm going down to the well tonight And I'm going to drink till I get my fill And I hope when I get old I don't sit around thinking about it But I probably will Yeah, just sitting back trying to recapture A little of the glory of, well time slips away And leaves you with nothing mister but Boring stories of Glory days ...

That's not true, everyone fears us and what can happen to their tournament chances by losing to us.

Yes ... I agree with Lurker ... we are a cautionary tale!

Man, thanks for digging that one up and using it against me; one of my favorite Springsteen tunes. The problem is, though, sometimes that place is the only place to go to find some solace. Wasn't that what the Boss was trying to say also?

Here he was with his biggest selling album ever and his best work was three albums in his rear view mirror. I say this as an avowed fan.

great topic.
this is where most of my disappointment lie. outside of peak and Pryor most of our lineup are players that needed developing as what would be as bench players.
here of recent we just don't have the alpha minded and alpha abled players that is needed for 40 minutes of all out basketball. All Out 40 Minutes Of Basketball.
most of our bigs do not play above the rim well at all... (we have went there enough) ..etc.
little Tremont coming in appears to be an alpha but he is only one. peak maybe gone so we may be be down to 1 or 2 at most.
we got to get back on the A-list of players. those that in right situations want the ball and without a play being called will try to get you a basket or from pride will try to get you a defensive stop.
it appears that Otto was the last of those players.
the big time programs have at the least 4 or more of those types of players. I don't care how good the coach is you need PLAYERS to win.
tourney time is about players showing up and making plays. one after another.
We just do not have those guys.

Wasn't that what the Boss was trying to say also? I'm not from New Jersey and I was one year old when that song came out, so I haven't spent a lot of time thinking about it. I'm just sick of everyone pining about the good old days that happened before I got to kindergarten. Every year, it's the same old "sweater game" "people feared us" "real toughness" blah blah blah blah blah. Isn't this great, its just like the 1980s!! Sure whatever, I was two. Seriously. I'm 33 years old. I'm not exactly young. Chris Mullin and Patrick Ewing have been retired for almost half of my life and for the entirety of the time I was paying attention to basketball. The kids we are recruiting were born after they retired. You might as well be talking about George Mikan at DePaul.

As much as I love JT-3, I am becoming more and more convinced that, in order to get those kinds of players, we will need a new coach. As much as I love the Thompson tradition at Georgetown. Winning has to come first! We just don't seem to be able to keep par with the new Big East. We need 3 or 4 players who are transferring at the end of this year. Tough players who can shoot the rock.
