I hate saying a game is a "must win" but that's what this game is if we have any (even slight) hope of making the tourney. In fact, I'd say that winning both against DePaul and then both against the Hall as well as the remaining St. John's game are all "must wins" at this point. Then we have to steal 1-2 against Marquette, Creighton and hopefully Nova and then we should be close. None of this is going to be easy. I just want to see the team compete in every game at this point. If they lose while playing well (rebounding, less dumb fouls, less dumb turnovers and hitting free throws), I'm ok with that. I want to see the effort I've seen over the last 3 games.

Just one student is grinding?? They were all grinding. Only one was doing it quietly.

Am I the only one who was surprised from the photo that those reading packets from Lauinger were still pretty much unchanged? Thought they would be all digital now.

Gotta show up with the same intensity. This isn't previous years Depaul who will just roll over. Need to play a full 40 minute game and take it to them. This. 2 wins against top 20 teams (I know, I know. Creighton isn't really top 20 without Watson) could lend itself to overlooking Depaul. But hopefully our still-lowly spot in the standings will help avoid that. I suspect the staff has already started hammering that in.

I'd like to see the team start out in a full court press, not only to set the tempo but to get their minds right from jump.

This is a winnable game but not an easy win.
If we start slowly, we'll lose.

I think just about all of our games are "must win" at this point.

There has been a great deal of talk about the Hoyas poor defense this season and clearly it has been frustrating to see the number of wide open shots the team has allowed. I just looked at Kenpom and interestingly our collective opponents have the fourth best average adjusted offensive efficiency (points scored per 100 possessions) in the country. So part of the Hoyas defensive struggles have come because while their defensive is clearly worse than we'd like to see, their opponents have had among the best offenses in the country.
DePaul is ranked 193rd offensively according to Kenpom, far worse than any team the Hoyas have lost to this year (Arkansas St. is ranked 95th). Hopefully the stats play out and the Hoyas defense will be less exposed tonight.

This is the first game for which I have actually been optimistic in weeks. But definitely not expecting g a win until I see how focused we look.

It's time to see Marcus look inside again.
First 4 BE games 21 threes (attempts), 16 twos, 11/11 FTs (2.5 FTA pg) -- 15.75ppg
Last 6 games 27 threes, 10 twos, 2/4 FTs (.67 FTs pg) -- 8.17ppg

As important as it is for the team to play with intensity ...the same holds true with the staff. Early in the game against Butler Jt3 layed into LJ, as soon as I saw that, I knew we were good.

JTIII also pulled Mulmore almost immediately because he didn't push the ball up the court (forgot if it was off a miss or a make). I like that level of accountability when it comes to things you can control. Now if a shot is missed, a kid shouldn't get yanked but if it is effort or things drilled in practice, then pull out the hook.

Hopefully the staff can impress upon him the need to use his size - and also that it will buy him some space to get off 3's.

Actually I have noticed the coach being more vocal with his players and the officials for the past several games.I think it is important. Not very optimistic tonight and won't allow myself to be until I watch the way the team comes out in both halves.

From the game notes: "the Blue Demons play only two players taller than 6-7 and have been outrebounded by an average of 3.4 per game"
