What happened? The GU stat feed is awful. Freshman McCune saved a ball from going in behind JT with his hand (Mano de Dios), penalty granted, but luckily he wasn't sent off. World-class kick for goal, no chance for JT.

So happy for Declan who has worked so hard and filled his role so well.
This team can hurt you a lot of ways.

Saw the first half and bits and pieces thereafter. Two goals negated by offside. The first, in the first half, was I think just barely correct. The second was extremely tight; without a down the line shot, I couldn't be sure, but I think it was a good goal. Beautiful FK for the winner. On to the NCAAs!

Marcinkowski and McCabe named Most Outstanding Defensive and Offensive Players of Tournament, respectively.
So happy for those kids. Two great young men who have earned everything they get.
Throw in their kindness to Harry and you can’t find better kids.

Welp! Fortune smiled on the Hoyas this day, although they certainly did their part and seized the opportunities presented. I wasn't able to either be there in person or see the BEDN slow motion replays of the handball... but judging by the fact that the ref already had the red card pulled out and then was talked out of it by the linesman, I think what happened is that the ball actually went off the crossbar *first* and only then did McCune paw it, as it was actually heading away from the goal line. Which the linesman would've been in a position to see, presumably. I mean, even Brian Weiss said it should've been a red, so that's the best I can come up with... The USMNT may not have qualified for this World Cup, but arguably American referees are worse, from a relatively quality perspective, than the players! Anyway, all that stuff is a part of the game, it events out over the course of a season, and I'm firmly convinced that the best team won. A credit to this group of young men and the coaching staff for rebounding so well and so quickly after a challenging season last year. This group has really staked a strong claim to establishing the program as one that reloads, rather than rebuilds. And now, just for fun to cap a very fun weekend, a throwback to when Declan McCabe signed with the Hoyas:
