I could not agree more. Regardless of how one feels about anyone's politics or policies, those who sit in the Oval Office literally give their lives to the nation and should be commended for that commitment and they and their families make sacrifices most of us will never know and deserve to relax afterward.

If Trump is as horrible and destructive as it looks like he could be, I hope everyone speaks out. He's been as bad as advertised. Everyone should be screaming. I think Obama was too measured in his statement.

Bush on free press: "Power can be very addictive, and it can be corrosive. And it's important for the media to call to account people who abuse power, whether it be here or elsewhere." Bush on Trumps ties to Russia: "I think we all need answers ... I'm not sure the right avenue to take. I am sure, though, that that question needs to be answered." Bush on the issue of immigration and Trump’s recent attempt to ban travelers from seven Muslim-majority nations, Bush warned that if the U.S. freezes out other countries and turns inward, that would only make it more difficult to fight the Islamic State group and other foreign extremists. "I think it’s very hard to fight the war on terrorism if we’re in retreat," he said. bos.gl/OPOlHrJ

Serious question - did 43 speak out during 44's presidency?

Serious question - did 43 speak out during 44's presidency? There is a presidential tradition that the outgoing president does not comment on his direct successor but slowly re-enters public life in the following administration, assuming they live that long. But since the four oldest presidents in US history have all served over the last 40 years (Ford, Reagan, Bush, Carter) it would make sense that the elder statesman role involves public discussion.

Well aware of the tradition. And I think it makes particular sense for a president to hold off on speaking out on his immediate successor, especially after a transition. I honestly could not remember whether 43 spoke out during 44's term. Thanks.

Per Politico, Eric Holder announces 44 is ready to get going on political activity.
So nice to hear he will be back in the game after such along time away from the spotlight...
Ego much?

These are weird and disquieting times. I'm not sure how you can criticize the ego of 44 when 45 is probably the most egotistical, narcissistic person to reside in the White House since Andrew Jackson. That said, 45 probably made the speech of his life yesterday. Good for him. He'll probably revert back to his typical blathering in a day or two, but yesterday at least illustrated why I have always said better Trump than Ted Cruz.

We have had other odd and disquieting times. It was always a lock that 44 could not keep his mouth shut and that people would excuse it...

We have had other odd and disquieting times. It was always a lock that 44 could not keep his mouth shut and that people would excuse it... Especially since he talked about doing this months ago, on Politico also.. www.politico.com/story/2016/10/obama-holder-redistricting-gerrymandering-229868Obama strongly endorsed Holder’s selection, and is planning more involvement in state races this year. But it’s in his post-presidency that redistricting will be a priority for his fundraising and campaigning.
“Where he will be most politically engaged will be at the state legislative level, with an eye on redistricting after 2020,” said White House political director David Simas, who’s been briefing Obama on the group’s progress since it started coming together at the beginning of the summer.

Quite frankly, I am more concerned about Trump and his Administration's relationship with Russia and Putin than the political activities of Obama. (For the record, I was not a big fan of many aspects of Obama's foreign policy) If Trump released his tax returns, and there is no legal reason he cannot, he might clear the air a bit.

However, this thread deals with my assertion that 44 would not be able to stay quiet in the fashion of his predecessors. I did not predict, but should have, that his actions would be instantly justified because he is so special and these times so unique.

Trump, he is so special and these times unique we need DJT!! I just don't get your obsession with 44 who is in the rear view mirror.

What is your fascination with calling a person by a number? To answer your question with a question, "what's it to you?" He was the 44th President. Hence the number. Sorry if it offends you.
