[While I was waiting for my friends to walk, I was paging through the program trying to entertain myself. I noticed that while RaMell was listed, Darrell Owens was not.]
cf. p.52 of this year's Commencement book: Darrel Paul Owens, Jr., Assumption High School, Napoleonville, Louisiana."
He plans to be in a Hoya uniform next year.

This may not be good news. Owens is ineligible for next year unless he graduates this year and enrolls in graduate or professional school.

I deleted my original post, b/c I was wrong--Owens is in the book, as inigo pointed out. I missed his name for whatever reason, so this thread can get locked. Sorry for the misinfo.

But isn't the model here Jameel Watkins, who came back for a year of graduate studies?! Or Ralph Dalton, who played in the 85-86 season while enrolled in the GU MBA program??

I think he is coming back. I see him around McDonough all the time. Ross isn't there... why should DJ?

This may not be good news. Owens is ineligible for next year unless he graduates this year and enrolls in graduate or professional school. The WTimes reported last weekend that he graduated.

DJ- His name was in the program, but he did not walk yesterday. Ramell did, congrats to both. I read nothing into Owens' absence, but I point it out for the amateur augurists here.
I hear Ramell is following in the footsteps of Courtland and Omari as a hoops ambassador, heading for Africa immediately. Soon enough there will be enough former Hoyas working for the state department to field a starting 5 of globetrotters.

Jameel Watkins and Courtland Freeman both did postgraduate work at GU during their fifth year on the team. Since they are the only two players who have done this recently I assume Owens would follow the same route. Also, I don't remember Courtland walking at the '03 graduation. I don't know if that means anything or not.

is this really what we're reduced to? speculating on whether he's returning based on the fact that his name is in the Commencement book?
can we get ANYTHING more solid? There has to be someone with a friend or connection?!!!
I am dying to know whether D.O. is coming back, if he is, I think we are a tourney lock....

This may be true, I certainly don't know, but I did not think Courtland was necessarily doing grad work during his fifth year. Jameel, like DJ, was a partial qualifier which meant he had to graduate in four years in order to gain a fifth, and then enroll in a graduate program. Courtland's situation was more akin to Ross, with his fifth year the result of an injury redshirt, so it was possible for him to simply spread his undergraduate work out over 5 years and still be eligible throughout.

Courtland was first team all-academic in the Big East and I'm pretty sure he was a grad student. Just saying, they always talked about his strong academics during games...FWIW

My brother's friend's sister's niece said that her friend's uncle said that it looks like Owens will be back, but I don't have anything more solid than that.

Courtland may or may ot have been taking grad courses but he had a fifth year due to an injury redshirt. You have 5 years to use up your 4 years eligibility unless you are a partial qualifier.
