It can be a nice problem to have. To some extent you have to go with the hot hand or hands but it seems too early in the season to write off Govan. And, if the Kenner reports were accurate, Mourning could give 5-10 minutes of real energy minutes off the bench. It's doable. Man, play Mourning the young man can play inside or out period. I don't understand why he isn't playing. Maybe it's not for me to understand. I don't know. Free Mourning! Agree. Effort has never been a problem for Mourning. Rebounding and defensive issues have, but then which current post on this team does not have some serious drawbacks, in areas like defense, rebounding, mobility or effort. As much as I hate to pile on the attacks of JT III, the one aspect of his coaching which I cannot accept is his refusal to play kids like Mourning even in blowout wins or losses. Mourning is not a walk-on. He contributed and actually proved last year that his energy can be a positive jolt for the team in a critical stretch of games. What has happened since then to warrant almost no time this year other than garbage time? Many of the games have essentially been over with 5-6 minutes remaining and still no Mourning. Finally, given the change in the approach to the game, I expected that Mourning was assured a role this year where his hustle would fit in with the new approach.

Between now and the start of the BE season it has to be all about DEFENSE. This team is talented enough offensively to hang with the best. But it is our inability to stop the other team from scoring that has killed us not just this year but last year as well. Unless we see a marked improvement in our DEFENSE over the next 3 weeks we will be in for a long BE season. A good sign that we are getting there would be holding Coppin to less than 50 points. If we can't do that to what is clearly one of the worst teams in the country then I don't care how great we look offensively. Agreed. This game should look like the USC-Upstate game, except with fewer offensive rebounds given up.

Can anyone clarify the TV for this game? I've seen it listed as MASN, FS1, and not televised.

This game should look like the USC-Upstate game, except with fewer offensive rebounds given up. I think the key to this game is to see if they can play with focus and intensity for a full 40 minutes. Even if they get ahead significantly early on, it is time for this team to show they can continue to outwork their opponents for a full game. There have been mental and effort lapses in all the games they have played this season and that needs to change. That doesn't mean you need to play the starters for a full 40 minutes or that you need to continue to press for the entire game, but they need to show they can be fully invested in the game until the final buzzer. Having seen Kentucky, West Virginia and even Oklahoma State play this year on TV you can see that those teams just play much harder for an entire game than the Hoyas. It seems that playing hard all the time is an expectation and requirement from those coaching staffs for every player. Not sure I can say the same about the Hoyas, at least not yet this year. Eliminate the casual turnovers and lazy defense and rebounding and it would make everyone's outlook for the season improve, no matter who you start doing it against.

You keep mentioning that. JT3 will take care of it. He can be criticized for a lot, but working with the NCAA on his players' behalf is not it. The only reason I say it is because it's the rules. If you play one minute in a game in an academic year, you lose that year of eligibility. You only get it back if you get a hardship waiver (increasingly uncommon), a medical redshirt (no indication that's true), or some other type of waiver. Obviously, the Hayes waiver was the special type of waiver that is uncommon, but that JT3 and the staff have been pretty effective in obtaining over the years. All I am saying is that this cannot possibly be a "strategy," otherwise he wouldn't be playing. Why risk somebody playing a handful of minutes if you're going to then make up a reason for a redshirt years later? It makes no sense. Of course, you also assume JT3 would be around - I hope he is, because that means we will be succeeding, but based on the way this Board talks, at least, it's certainly no sure thing. Yes, and the rules are common knowledge. You're not the only one familiar with them - but then again, by interpreting them so literally I'm not sure how familiar you are.

I am not sure how "common knowledge" the rules are given that there are constantly questions about redshirting, but good to know you can resolve all questions on it going forward.

Just re-watching the Howard game and a few observations:
Akoy is a permanent starter, easily one of the best 5. Instinctual, versatile and aggressive and probably the best rebounder we have.
Marcus Derrickson is going to be an intrical part of the Hoyas success this season. He looks great physically and may be our next best rebounder and the stroke is beautiful. Looking forward to see him progress this season, good health is all that's needed.
Of the 2 bigs, Hayes is the most effective simply because he can handle the double team a lot better although he's not particularly great at this either. Both are slow of foot and below average rebounders for their size. Neither are good rim protectors which is not good when you want to press.
All Mosely needs is an outside shot, the same goes for Johnson.
I think our biggest problems are fundamentals. A lot of one handed passes that led to turnovers, inability to find a body and box out and defensive positioning both on the press and in the half court. We continually allowed the Howard players split the double teams in the full court press and allowed dribble penetration without proper rotating help to at least make ball handler pass the ball. Allowed dribblers to go strong hand at will instead of shading to seemingly weaker hand. Ball handlers continually got to the rim unimpeded, this is a problem.
I'm actually encouraged and think we're going to improve significantly.
Isaac Copland, what's his role from here on out?
Tre Campbell impressed me with his composure and quickness and of course the 3 ball.
The 5 that ended the game may be our best collective 5: Tre, Peak, Pryor, Derrickson and Akoy. Of course Tre can be substituted for.
#33 Miller for Howard was the best player on the court Sunday.

Miller was good. Exactly the type of player that is there for the taking. We need to evaluate players better. Hart comes to mind.

With the extra practices, let's hope they worked on stopping guards driving to the basket for layups uncontested. 40 minutes in a game, the Hoyas need 40 minutes of intensity.

Both teams in the bonus with 13:43 left? Sweet. This has the makings of a classic.
