I think the way the game has been evolving, slow, lumbering big men don't really have a valuable place in the game. You need players to step out and defend screen actions. Few traditional centers exist. A lot of 5s can stroke it. I would agree that the trend seems to be moving away from the "lumbering" big men and more toward the long athletic guys who run the floor better and block shots with their ability to get off the floor quickly, like the Boucher kid from Oregon. You see more of those kids playing in these spread offenses than you do a big space eater just trying to find position in the post. Jessie seems to be getting better and showing a little more agility but still needs more quickness, but Hayes is the definition of a lumbering big man, and that limits his effectiveness in certain games.

I will take a Hayes on our team every year. If this guy is a 7'5" Hayes- take him!

Just show him the Jimmy Dolan shake and bake and he's in the bag for the Hoyas.

Recently spoke with a guy connected to Bullis program. Said they have a 7 ft 5 or 6 kid who is a junior and not yet playing on the team. He is supposedly a very athletic kid with no idea how to play basketball, but is a relative of Mutombo and expects to play for the Hoyas. Bullis has a very good team, but they do expect him to play on the squad next year. So, sounds stuff reported above...this is more confirmation of it..I guess!

Not very athletic (but I guess it's all relative at 7'5) 2. He played the first half of this year, then got hurt 3. Not related to Mutombo

Great. Now we can have a 7'5" guy at the top of the key 1 on 1 with the opposing team's guard

They clearly have two 7'5" guys, one who is athletic, hasn't played and is related to Deke, and one who isn't athletic, played and isn't related to Deke. Take your pick.

At the game, first row behind Hoyas' bench.

At the game, first row behind Hoyas' bench. Well then that is pure delusion. By the time this kid learns to play basketball, JTIII will be years into his post-Georgetown career.

Regardless of whether it's him or not, there's no doubt we NEED a shot blocker in the worst way. It's the only way we can make up for the Inability to stop penetration.

Regardless of whether it's him or not, there's no doubt we NEED a shot blocker in the worst way. It's the only way we can make up for the Inability to stop penetration. Let's see if he can get off the bench next season. The IAC league that he plays in is not the WCAC or the DCIAA for that matter. Roy "the Big Stiff" Hibbert averaged something like 19-17-6 (blocks) his senior year in the IAC and, as many of us remember, was not that effective his Freshman year. This kid cannot get off the bench. He needs some major conditioning work. There is some time for him to get in shape by 2018 ... but he's also adjusting to moving to the US. I hope Deke or someone has this kid working with a personal trainer and a private basketball coach. Big men generally take more time to develop ... despite the Zapruder film that we watched, this kid has a long, long way to go ... I look forward to reports of him dominating the Yates Intramural League like Mutumbo reported did during his Freshman year.

Is there any confirmation that the guy that's in the b&w film earlier in this thread is the guy with Mutombo connections and has been to Hoya home games? If so he will be a definite project like Hayes at best. The Hoyas need a 6'9-10" athletic center that can run the court in less than half an hour and has a jumping ability that at least gets his head as high above the rim as his 5'10" point guard. I think III has too long been focused on the offensive skills of his big men(3pt shooting) than the defensive ability(ability to block shots and rebound) In short a plodder who can hit a 3pt shot at about a 35 percent clip is not what the Hoyas need.

How about a big who can catch the ball and pass out of a double-team. Good fundamentals- is that too much to ask?

It's him. Have seen him at games and the video and confirmed that he's at Bullis. He's really a project. Would be interesting to see he could be developed, but talking about a potential impact in the 2021-2022 time frame .. if at all. Hopefully a good student who can get into Georgetown on academics and continue to develop athletically. Put this one in the "not going to help us anytime soon" category.

I think this interview explains the connection with Mutombo. He is a kid he found at his Basketball Without Borders camp. He adopted him and brought him to the US to get him an education and better shot at college. Mutombo Adopted 7'7" Kid from Congo

Is there any word on the development of Mutombo's 7' 7" son? Has anyone seen him play?
