Story in the NY Times today about Penn State Lax player Mike Jacober, who lost his parents and younger brother in a plane crash this season, and the tremendous impact it had on him and his team. Also talks about the support he received from the Lax community. Excerpt: <<One of the most striking gestures of support came from the Hoyas, who moved up their Senior Day ceremony from its traditional spot, the last home game of the season. Georgetown officials did not want Jacober to have to watch the Hoya players walking onto the field with their parents. "It says a lot about their school and their program," said Dave Jacober, who played lacrosse at Ohio State and Gettysburg. "It was an unbelievably classy gesture and gracious on their part. They didn't have to do it; they chose to do it.">> Complete Story www.nytimes.com/2005/05/15/sports/othersports/15lax.ready.html?What a great move by our University. A solid "Hoya Saxa" to Hoya LAX!

Echo the thanks for sharing this---classy and shows what College Sports is about--competition and respect but not forgetting that these athletes are human. I will be sending a donation to not only the basketball program but also the Lacrosse program.
I'd also like to say that it's even a bigger deal that this was brought up by someone else and not one of these "Look at Us doing something nice" things that often accompany good deeds by athletes/programs.
Makes me proud to be a Hoya and that University has hired such a quality group of Staff Members who recruit great people--not just athletes.

Wow, if karma is worth a damn the Hoyas ought to win the national title this year. An incredibly classy and Christian move from Coach Urick. Definitely proud to be a Hoya today.

More on the Jacober/Penn State story in the Projo (free registration required - visit www.bugmenot.com to bypass) - referred to me by a Weingeroff (the other family involved in the class) relative, who was also very appreciative of the Hoyas' class: Lifelong rivals triumph over tragedy Mike Jacober, who lost his family in a March plane crash, and his friend Sean Flynn have channeled the emotions of the tragedy to guide their college lacrosse teams into the NCAA Torunament. 01:00 AM EDT on Saturday, May 14, 2005 BY MIKE SZOSTAK Journal Sports Writer www.projo.com/college/content/projo_20050514_14lax.2114cfd.html
