Man, do we need more stories like this. Serious kudos to Febin Bellamy and all the students who are pitching in. Sheepishly, I admit that when I was an undergrad I was much more myopic and self-involved. Maybe there is some hope for our future...
"After a three-year campaign, students at Georgetown University have won their fight to secure living wages for university workers. The campaign–known as the Georgetown Living Wage Coalition–culminated in a nine-day hunger strike by over twenty students before the university accepted almost all of the campaign’s ten demands. We speak with one of the students who participated in the hunger strike."
Just another reason to be a proud Hoya alum. When kids in college take the time to recognize something outside of their grades, iPhones and the next party and do something like this, it really speaks to a full education that GU provides.
I'm with you on that. Reading those short stories, it makes me wish all of those people could get together and teach a class about life. I can't imagine GU being able to offer enough sections of that class to fill the demand. What an incredibly diverse group. Imagine the stories they could share.
