In what has got to be one of the funniest decisions ever, Dook's long-time human victory cigar Shavlik Randolph has decided after his junior season that he's done warming the benches at Cameron, and it's time to take his splinter-collecting show to bigger crowds in the NBA.
Unless he's declaring for the 2002 draft retroactively, I don't think this makes any sense. Except for the part about Coach K 'backing him 100%.' THAT I totally believe.

From local new website: www.wral.com/sports/4487105/detail.htmlCan't help but think that Coach K pushed Shav to do this to spare his program some embarrasment and make more PT for McRoberts. Let's not overlook the fact that I beat NRC900 to the punch by 45 seconds!

I agree. This is another disgraceful performance by Coach K. He only "supports" Shav 100% because Shav has been a bust. I don't recall him pledging the same "support" for William Avery, even though Avery appeared to be much more ready than Shav. It appears that Coach K conveniently "supports" players when he no longer needs them.

This is one of the most laughable and disgusting announcements of all time. Shavlik Randolph was not only outplayed, he was DESTROYED by the MEAC opponent in First Round of NCAA's simply because he is slow, terrible, and one of the biggest pieces of human waste to ever set foot on a basketball court. I was very vocal in my opposition to the talk of Duke's signing class that included him, Dockery, Michael Thompson, Redick, Williams, and Melchioni as one of the best of all time as I saw Randolph and Dockery as BUSTS waiting to happen, Melchioni as a one dimensional player, and knew Thompson wouldn't develop being that he's a True Post Prospect and nobody develops at Duke unless they are an undersized post or a finesse big--Ferry, Laettner, etc... Amazing that Coach K didn't support Shelden Williams leaving for NBA but he does "Shav"--that's why he's not only a basketball coach, but also a teacher/leader of men. BTW, UConn signee and former Hoya recruiting target Andrew Bynum just threw his name into the Draft as well.

Hey RDF, I suggest you perform the following exercise:
1. Walk to the nearest mirror. 2. Look yourself inthe eyes. 3. Say to yourself (outloud), "I think that Shavlik Randolph, a 20 year-old kid that I have never met, is a piece of "human waste" because he hasn't played as well in college as many people said he would. 4. Post back on the board how embarrased that made you feel.

This has been expected. A UNC fan with inside information was spreading word a few weeks back that Shav and his dad were not happy with K and that both parties would be going their separate ways. He said that Shav wouldd eclare for the NBA rather than find a new school, sit out one season and play for one season. Whoa! This kid recently has been confirming his intentions to go to school. Every other article at the Boneyard was about how he wasn't going pro or that he had thought about going pro but decided against it. Huskies fans must be going nuts right now.

Really can't argue with that, but I stick by my "no talent a$$ clown" analysis from awhile...for the longest time I just assumed it was bad luck, but the guy just couldn't cut it....

I hope Bynum stays in, even though I think he's a bit overrated as a prospect. I'd rather the Hoyas not have to face him (even though I think our guys are better for now) and the presence of another young center in the draft only means good things for the Knicks.

Post back on the board how embarrased that made you feel. Did what you said, and still feel the same. Listen, whether you like how I talk or not, it's my style and who I am so I suggest you just ignore or choose to not reply because I'm not changing how I express my opinions. Are they harsh and strong? Yep, but the guy is a piece of excrement as basketball player and the excuses/hype made for him have been beyond sickening. Appreciate your "intervention" but please don't waste my time anymore with your politically correct, refrain from saying bad things, posts. I'll choose to ignore your stuff if you ever post, haven't seen you before, but welcome to the site. Sorry you don't like my take on things, but I'd suggest you ignore it in future because there is no gray area with me. Guy was hyped as best player in world because he was a tall white kid who signed with Duke and had a father who played in ACC. He was a stiff back then and excuses came in as to why he sucked. Now he isn't alone in being garbage, but fact he's unhappy with how Duke has handled his career is a joke and I hate Duke. The guy is worthless as a player and excrement and waste come to mind when watching him play basketball.

I didn't think HS kids had the option of pulling their name out of the draft, but www.theday.com/eng/web/news/re.aspx?re=D34A789D-300D-4BB9-805C-7C88DC27B5E8 certainly makes it appear he can.

Was there a lot of speculation during his recruitment that he might go anyway? I don't recall any, but that's not to say it wasn't hovering there in the background. Either way, bad day for the geniuses who write for the Boneyard and the Huskies in general; I can't help but wonder about the commitment and character of a kid who tells people exactly what he thinks they want to hear while pursuing a separate agenda.
