This team is stacked with talent and so far is 1-1 vs. Top 15 teams....Keep it up and run the table in the Beast, Hoyas. This could prove to be the year. Good experience, good depth, good newbies.

G'town WSOC having a great season so far against very tough competition. Just handed George Mason a spanking 4-1, maintaining their national ranking #20/24. Sunday at 1:00 PM come the #3 Virginia Cavs to Shaw followed by GWU (unbeaten) and #4WVU. So far, Coach Nolan has put this team out there and they are answering the call. The next 10 days will be a rough stretch and then Big East play begins. A couple of wins in the next three games would set this team up very well for post season consideration. Get out the Shaw Field Sunday for some very good soccer and support.

Get out the Shaw Field Sunday for some very good soccer and support. Fine showing down in the City of Fairfax. Mason stymied them early - very aggressive and physical from the Patriots, they showed well at the outset. But they could not possibly sustain that level of effort. They subbed early-ish in the half, and then when the Hoyas brought in super-subs like Crystal Thomas, it quickly became a matter of 'if, not when.' You could feel that the first goal would just be the dam-breaker, and that's exactly what happened. Second half was mostly just about pure quality winning out. All in all, the Hoyas made their share of mistakes, but their athleticism allowed them to make up for almost all of them. Mason could not say the same thing, and some of their errors ended up in the back of the net, or ricocheting off of the woodwork. All of the starters got their share of rest to save legs for the weekend. This may be the toughest early season schedule they've ever played - which is fine, because this may be the best team they've ever fielded. UVA on Sunday looms large. A result there would be absolutely huge. If you live in the DMV and can only make it to one women's soccer game this year, make it this one.

Imagine going down to #3 Virginia whose goalie had not given up a goal this year 0-2. A three goal run all in the first half to put us ahead, and then hold on for the win. Big, big win for rankings now, and post season play down the road. Congrats to the ladies and to Coach Nolan.

Big, big win for rankings now, and post season play down the road. Congrats to the ladies and to Coach Nolan. But there is no joy in Hooville - mighty UVA had struck out. Seriously, the level of composure and perseverance demonstrated by the Hoyas this afternoon was absolutely incredible. After the first 15 minutes, it looked like this would be a runaway and a shellacking - Georgetown looked back on their heels and borderline shellshocked. Clearly the inferior team on the field. And then... and then they didn't. I don't know that I've ever seen anything quite like it. UVA was just as surprised as anyone else, I'm sure. And then Taylor Pak gets the space to run up and howitzer a shot at goal, and the deficit is cut in half. And suddenly the Wahoos' passes are no longer perfectly chosen and weighted and the Hoyas start getting breakaways. Boom, they convert: 2-2, game on. Next thing you know, the Hoyas draw a not too far from the top of the 18, and Rachel Corboz does Corboz things with the ball on the free kick. Pandemonium. UVA will feel aggrieved at being denied a PK (it was adjudged to be inches outside the box), but in response they proceeded to flop so flagrantly that one of their players earned a yellow for her terrible acting. Not sure I've ever seen that in a women's college game before. Not #2 in the country material, sorry. The Hoyas, meanwhile - they are made of sterner stuff.

Absolute highway robbery....Georgetown beats Rutgers (#12) to rise to #24 in TopDrawerSoccer rankings, then holds that ranking by spanking George Mason hard (4-1) and turns around to beat #3 Virginia, who with the loss, drops to #5 (so Virginia is respected) but Georgetown stays at #24. Go figure. Now, not many top 25 teams lost this weekend, but some are two loss teams ahead of us without our resume'. So is this favoritism to the top 5 conferences? Regardless, we must hold ground against GWU, as we did with George Mason last week, and then go to town on new #1 West Virginia in Morgantown on Sunday. Go Hoyas---keep it up. Very well done so far.

So take a look at socceramerica.com which has rankings after last weekends games and justice was served. Georgetown is ranked #9, while their opponent this Sunday in Morgantown, the West Virginia Mountaineers, are ranked #1. In the meantime get over to the northwest campus of GWU Thursday at 3 PM as the Hoyas need to maintain serve in readiness to play their second #1 team this year. Don't know if we have done that in Hoya Women's soccer history?

Don't know if we have done that in Hoya Women's soccer history? Just FYI (and I think the Hoyas should've been higher anyway) the topdrawer "ranking" isn't a true top 25 ranking. It's not trying to rank the top teams in the country it's supposed to be more about the likelihood of making the NCAA tournament and likelihood of getting a top seed. Overall the BE conference isn't that strong so that hurts our chances of a top seed. Just keep winning and the Hoyas will

Thanks for the input HSB....Went a step further and the NCAA rating is probably closest to what I guessed we would be (#18). A very good body of work so far, but with the schedule there are no breaks. You could look at it as Big East conference play will be a break compared to what this team has been through but with five roadies and only one shot at each team, that too will be difficult. Enjoy the ride.

Don't know if we have done that in Hoya Women's soccer history? Sincerely doubt they've ever played two #1's in one season. Good writeup in The Hoya on the GW game: www.thehoya.com/womens-soccer-controlled-pace-seals-6th-straight-win/All in all, a fine tune-up for the 'eers. The Hoyas just missed the final finish on a number of chances and largely controlled the run of play, to the extent that there was one (as Coach Nolan pointed out in the recap, it was mostly a back-and-forth slog in the middle of the field). On the other hand, the Hoyas did get the majority of the calls, including having a GW equalizer in the closing minutes (correctly) waved off for offside. I think they got the benefit on those calls because they were clearly the better team, but GW fans were definitely feeling aggrieved, as they often are when they play the Hoyas. Especially after their coach got a yellow in the last two minutes or so. Then again, this may also be the Colonials best team ever. Their win over a ranked Arkansas team was not a fluke - they have some real physicality to their game, a good understanding of how to set up and run the counter, and their organization on set pieces was solid overall. This could very easily become another quality win for the Hoyas come tournament seeding time.

What an unbelievable win today in double OT, golden goal by Damaska, over #1 ranked WVU. It does not get any better. WVU had a number of chances in the first half but couldn't find the back of the net. The Hoyas were holding in by a finger nail. They came out in the second half and were the stronger side for the first 35 minutes, then the air seemed to be coming out of the balloon, the legs getting tired. But they tenaciously held on for a 0-0 regulation final.
First OT still no scoring but G'town finding a second wind. And then the second OT. WooHoo.
Four games against teams in the top 12, 3 wins......Two games against teams ranked #1 and 1-1......Three games against teams in the top 3 and 2-1.....
Congrats to the whole team and to Coach Nolan. This sets up for the NCAAs quite well....It will also make BEAST games seem a bit easier, but never get complacent, and never, ever look past any opponent.

By far the best season the women's team has ever had. Really excited about this team. Some truly amazing wins. Keep it up Hoyas!

Yea, I mean, one hardly knows how to react to such unprecedented success, so early in the season.
Let's hope everyone stays focused, as the men proved was possible last season. Imagine another perfect Big East season - that should be the goal. What a lasting accomplishment that would be.
