Coach Ewing told him that he envisioned him being like Kimba Walker in his offense and Tremont seemed to be insulted. If Ewing told him he envisioned him as Kimba Walker, he should have been insulted - never heard of the guy. If however he envisioned him as Kemba Walker - who almost literally carried UConn to the national title - and Waters was insulted? Just proves he was not GU academic material!đđ I knew I needed to Google K emba's name, lol.

The guys we would not have if JTIII was here would be a bigger concern.

For those posters who continue to question a difficult decision that was made after considerable handwringing, I would suggest starting a new thread entitled, "Should JTIII Have Been Fired." That would be the proper place to polish off tired old arguments and allow the rest of us to ignore them and focus on forward-looking posts.

The young man is a great talent and will make the next two years an easy adjusting period for their new coach Wade. He will also keep the LSU arena filled with fans coming to see his show. He will also make it easy for them to make the tournament the next two years because the tv analyst are already comparing him to Kyrie Irving. He will however not bring them a long run in the tournament eventhouugh they have talented players besides him. It became clear to me last night that if he had chosen Ewingâs overtures over LSU, he would have done the same thing for Ewing that he will do for Wade, bring excitement back in the game for the fans for the next two years, because I still believe he pictures himself a âone and doneâ player but probably will be forced to stay two before he ultimately declares. The problem is that he is a one man show. He literally needs the ball in his hands 90 percent of the time to be effective. The other LSU players, though very talented will become an after thought by seasons end. It will be the â Benny and the jets â show staring Tremont Waters as Benny. Although many on this board pictured him as an uptempo pg, he really is not. He is better suited for a JTIII offense of last year where the pg brings the ball up court deliberately surveying the floor for an opening. Ewingâs Offense has the first man who touches the offensive rebound to force it upcourt, not necessarily looking for the pg to bring it up. It therefore makes the whole team run together with multiple candidates for the finishing basket. Donât get me wrong, I would have loved to have seen this young man in a Hoya uniform, he would have made the next two seasons exciting, but in the end like Iverson, there would be no BE championship banners nor any sweet sixteen appearances. Iverson as great a talent as he was, required JT2 to give up a lot of the control of how the team ultimately played. Maybe it is better that this present Hoya team remain under Ewingâs control for a while before he relinquish control to the Benny and the jets show.

Shorter OldHoyaFan : - he won't make it far in the tournament (we're not going to make the tournament at all) - he's a one and done (he and his Dad have said this is not the case and he is undersized) - he needs the ball in his hands at all times (last game he had 8 assists, 1 TO, 5 points, the other two guards scored the majority of the points) - some nonsense about "not a uptempo PG" that smells a lot like Boston isn't a college town - Ewing probably is better off not contending than having a star PG??? This fanbase is stupid and it cost us a superstar.

Anybody who says we are better off not having Waters is crazy, in my opinion. The kid has been fantastic so far, and he's a far PG than anybody on our roster (and our guys have actually played above expectations so far).
His offensive stats are great. He's hugely efficient on offense (142 O rating), his assist rate is 33.2 (i.e., really high), his turnover rate is better than any of our guards except Blair, and his shooting has been outstanding. He's 9-11 from the line, 10-16 on twos and 8-15 on threes. This is not a guy who is trying to shoot every time he gets the ball.
This is a player that would instantly make our team better. I don't think its inconceivable that a starting lineup of Waters, Mosely/Blair, Johnson, Derrickson, Govan might have been good enough to lead us to the NCAA tournament. It doesn't really matter though, Waters chose to leave and wouldn't have been here regardless of whether JT3 stayed.
But given the long chorus of "JT3 cannot recruit PGs," it's ironic that the one he had gotten probably would have been Georgetown's best PG under JT3.

Always a pleasure to read your posts OldHoyaFan, the amount of knowledge and basketball IQ that bleeds out of your posts would educate even the youngest Hoya fan. I've always thought Kyrie Irving was the modern day Isiah Thomas (HOF Detroit Pistons version). And always thought Iverson was also like an Isiah Thomas in being a ball dominate little man. Do you think that's a fair assessment? And if so, then with the right complementary pieces in place Isiah did win 2 NBA championships, and Iverson did get to an NBA final. So that would bode well for Tremont and Kyrie succeeding if the right pieces are in place.

I think that most of us were excited to have Tremont but he chose another school. Completely understandable considering all that has gone on in the past year. Best of luck to him. I'm happy to hear that he's off to such a good start.
