I just recently saw an article on Anthony McClain, a 7 footer who is rated the 3rd best center in his class. Guess he's great friends with new Hoya recruit Jesse Sapp, so McClain is apparently very interested in coming to GU. I'm excited that we' may be getting a center rated so high. Here's the link to the article: georgetown.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=415928Question: Can anyone tell me what the chances of getting him really are, and just how good is this kid? thanks

He's extremely young, so its hard to fully evaluate him. Roy was a top 10 recruit as a freshman in High school.
But anyway, this guy moves well for a big man and has lots of potential. He really needs to work on low post moves though, because right now he prefers to shoot the jumper than really dominate down low like someone his size should.
So right now potential is the key word, we'll just have to wait and see how he develops.
As for our chances of getting him, they are just as good or better than anyone else. He's only a sophomore and we were one of the first schools, or THE first to show any real interest with him, and there is also the NCA Jessie Sapp connection. He's a good kid to keep an eye on and if he develops into a really good player its nice to know that we'll already have the inside track.

McClain is a perfect prospect for us. He'd be a freshman when Roy is a senior, meaning he'd have one year to split minutes at the 5 before taking on a starting role. He's a top center prospect in his class. We should have 2 scholarships availible for that year with the graduation of Sead and Ray. He'd be ideal as the next generation of big man for us.
That said, it's kinda far away for me personally to get excited about him. Fingers crossed that his interest remains high and that his connections to Jesse pay off, and I hope the coaching staff makes a huge push for him. But right now as fans I think most of us are concerned with 2006 recruits. A lot can happen between now and 2007 in terms of personnel.
