The Under-21 World Championships are this August. Looks like the trials to make the 12-man roster are in July. See this link for details: www.usabasketball.com/men/2005/05_mu21_coaches.htmlMy questions for the group: 1. What are the chances that Green and/or Bowman get invited to the trials (I think they usually invite 50 or 60 candidates)? 2. Does either have a chance to actually make the roster? Me, I think they'll both be invited (though I would consider Green a lock, but not Bowman). And I do think Green has a slim-but-real chance to qualify for the roster, as his passing and shooting skills are a nice fit for the international game. November seems so far away -- sure would be great to be able to watch Jeff play meaningful games before then.

If I remember correctly Brandon was one of the last people cut for this last year - got to think he will be back on the tryout list.

It is also an invaluable opportunity to develop one's game, with high level teammates, and international competition. It would be a huge benefit for either of these guys.

Yeah, he's about a year or so younger than his classmates.

I couldn't find Bowman's DOB in the media guide, but I did learn that his favorite childhood cartoon was Thundercats and that one his nicknames is "Silky Slim"

kchoya, your post about Brandon Bowman is PERFECT for this question. Was he ever on an episode of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air when he was about 9 or 10-years old? I saw an episode of the Fresh Prince from around 1993(where he was going to drop out of college to sell cars) and a young kid in that episode looked JUST LIKE Brandon Bowman. I know B.Bowman is from California, maybe it was him.

Jeremiah Rivers just got named to the US Youth Development Team as one of 31 players! This is an extremely prestigious distinction and he'll be playing with pretty much every top '06 prospect in the country.
The tournament's in June in San Diego.

From Andy Katz on ESPN.com
• Saint Joseph's coach Phil Martelli is still waiting to see who will available for tryouts for the USA Under-21 squad he's coaching this summer.
USA Basketball has made it clear that it won't beg for players, but that doesn't mean they won't keep asking to see who is available.
USA Basketball is still waiting to hear on three players who declared for the draft – Illinois' Dee Brown, Wake Forest's Eric Williams and Kentucky's Randolph Morris. If they withdraw from the draft, they could accept invitations.
The two locks so far are Duke shooting guard J.J. Redick and Connecticut small forward Rudy Gay. Michigan State forward Paul Davis apparently has said no.
The rest are still unknown. USA Basketball is waiting on: Michigan State's Maurice Ager and Shannon Brown; Connecticut's Josh Boone and Marcus Williams; Boston College's Jared Dudley; Texas' Daniel Gibson and Brad Buckman; Kentucky's Rajon Rondo; Nevada's Nick Fazekas; Wake Forest's Justin Gray; Charlotte's Curtis Withers; Oregon's Malik Hairston and Aaron Brooks; Oklahoma's Taj Gray; and Wisconsin's Alando Tucker, among others.

If they take Gay, they need to take Jeff.
Fat chance of USA Basketball considering that logic, however.
I can't believe I just wrote "USA Basketball" and "logic" in the same sentence.

C'mon, Gay over Jeff fits the USA Basketball logic. It's not about putting together a good team, it's about putting the most high-profile names on the court as possible at the same time, so we can get our @$$ handed to us by Uraguay.
Gay can play the role of Carmelo Anthony: benchwarming pouter who obviously won't start and serves no real role as a reserve. I mean, every team needs one of those, right? That's obviously better than a guy like Jeff who will do anything possible to help his team win.
