Someone might want to check on this, but there was a rumor I read on GW site from a guy named "Hoya Sux-A" that said he heard Hoya players mention another game with Duke at MCI this year and possible GTech game--my guess would be that Tech game being discussed in the note listed above.
However the tournament usually has National Teams playing OU and OSU--or at least I thought it went like that.
Now this is all RUMOR and SPECULATION but I read it on GW site and he didn't have any reason to make this up as he was responding to Fairfield question from one of our guys--think it was Cambridge, but it was a HT Board Member.

I saw that rumor, he was responding to me...but I took it with a really, really big grain of salt. Here's the thread: www.gwhoops.com/defaultNEW.asp?view=1&messID=11664You are correct about the College Classic, we would play either OK or OK St. Those other teams are the other possible contenders for the two "open" slots.

I know this is all speculation, but All-College Classic versus Oklahoma or Ok. St? Home versus Duke? Away at Ga Tech? Even if only one of those were true, it'd be amazing. Getting really excited about our non-conference schedule. JT III, just please get us a marquee OOC HOME game or two! That's all this schedule is missing so far.

Nice.
We're really having a good week, aren't we? I mean, even if we dont get one of the slots, we're still being mentioned with the big boys again, and thats something. If its not this event itll be something else big.
We're back.

Honestly, I'm not sure this is such a good thing. We should be careful not to have too dificult of a non-conference, and end up like this year's Temple team, or some of Tom Izzo's teams. Its fantastic that we might be getting games against UCLA , Michigan, Illinois, Oklahoma, Duke, G tech, etc., but at some point we need to say enough is enough. Our conference schedule is going to be extremely difficult next year, and we don't want to accidently end up with a losing record and not be eligible beacuse we overloaded on top-tier non-conference games.

I'd rather overschedule than under. It'll, at minimum, help break the conception that we have a weak SOS.

Yeah, I hope we don't overload on difficult road games in the OOC season. This is still a pretty young team - we don't want to beat them down a la Indiana last year. Some of those games won't be as tough as the names might suggest - Illinois and Michigan don't figure to be superpowers next year. But with such a strong conference schedule, we need to strike a balance. I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
Could we play in both this and the Wooden Classic? Aren't there some regulations on that kind of thing.

Exempt tourneys allow a team to play multiple games but only have them count as 1 versus annual regular season cap of 27. The Rainbow Classic is an exempt game. Neither Wooden nor the All-College is exempt, I believe. You can play in 2 exempt tourneys every four years.

Both the Wooden and All-College are just single game affairs, so there is no regulation on how many you can participate in as they really just fancy names for a non-conference matchup in the hopes it gets more TV exposure.

Yeah, Gonzaga played in the Vegas thing versus Tech, in this All-College thing versus OK St., so it must be possible...they prolly played in at least one more big event....

would love to face off against eddie sutton next year. they are going to struggle and it would be nice to get a win in a hostile environment even if it is not at gallagher (that place rivals Allen Fieldhouse and Cameron as the tough places to play in the country)

Yeah, they got tarred and feathered by Illinois in another non-exempt event before turning things around against GT and Oklahoma State. (Young team ... they got shell-shocked in that game ... but they turned things around after that initial humiliation.) Warning about the Oklahoma City venue: it might be a supposedly neutral court, but the fans of the two Oklahoma schools turn out in full force.

Just got word from a friend of mine who is an OU fan that Oklahoma State is saying it's going to play Hoyas and the teams listed are being discussed for Sooners at this time. If so, this just adds to what's looking to be a solid and very welcome schedule in non conference.

I seem to remember a quote from JTIII last year regarding scheduling, to the effect that he would match OOC opponents to his expectations for the team (someone correct me if I'm wrong - I searched the archives but couldn't find anything).
I'd say these rumors and the schedule so far would indicate his expectations for next year are quite high. To take it further down the path of message board speculation, I read this to mean that the coaching staff is counting on Bowman returning.

Yeah, if this is all true its shaping up to be an extremely impressive schedule. This would shut up all the schedule critics for a long time.
Man, Illinois, Michigan, UCLA, Oklahoma State, thats an impressive schedule.

Not to mention they are all on the road in hostile or "neutral" arenas...
