Agreed. Watson/Foster will be a beast of a backcourt.

Brunson 19 Ochefu 44 Arch 55 Kris 75 Josh 97 Basically says that he values character as much or more than talent.. Below is a part of the article.. It was in 2012 that Wright made a decisive course correction with the way his program recruited. Villanova was still looking for impact talent in the same radius from its home base in Philadelphia, but three years of underachieving with highly ranked recruits had made it clear that character needed to be a bigger emphasis in the evaluation process. With a redefined recruiting philosophy, Villanova approached that 2012 class in the market for a different type of player than it had gotten in years past and ended up coming away with Ryan Arcidiacono and Daniel Ochefu. A year later it was Kris Jenkins, Josh Hart and Darryl Reynolds -- creating the five-man core that would build the foundation of the Wildcats' national championship team. Most coaches publicly pay lip service to the value of recruiting character and building a culture, yet privately live by a mantra of "he better be better than his problems." Villanova has proven it practices what it preaches and shown a commitment to prioritizing prospects with high character, toughness and a team-first approach.

My guess is it says how Georgetown passed on Josh Hart to bring in Reggie Cameron if it is written by a hoyatalk ESPN insider.

Definitely support that type of mentality although I wouldn't say more.. you still need talent to go along with that wk ethic Ot a bit and didn't realize until I posted it but if you're going by the rankings Nova has the best starting lineup in the BE I think...

Archidiacano also missed his entire senior season of highschool due to back surgery. May have been ranked alot higher if he had played his senior season. So if you look at their team, they have one McDonald's all american in Brunson and Arch who may have been ranked alot higher along with Ochefu. It's obviously not UNC/KU/UK/Duke type talent but they still had alot of talent.

I think Wright has done a great job at Villanova, but it's much easier to make statements about character, etc. after you've won a national championship or made a Final Four than when you are struggling. Of course, character can matter (especially if it causes chemistry problems) but Wright has also succeeded in bringing in a lot of talented guys who are very good, but not necessarily 5 star one-and-done types. He succeeded in getting together a group that complimented one another extremely well, and a group with a fair amount of experience, too.

To be fair though 2003 Wright has been talking about this philosophy for over 2 years now.. This article was from March of 2014.. www.csnphilly.com/ncaa/new-recruiting-pitch-has-villanova-back-trackAt some point during that stretch from mid-2011 through the end of 2012 -- when Villanova won just 17 of 44 games -- Wright and his staff recognized that they had to build differently.
“We started looking for a kid we knew would be happy to be a four-year guy,” Wright said. “If he was good enough to leave after two years, that would be a surprise to him, but he wanted to be in school for four years, he was going to enjoy the process, he wanted to be here.”
And the nucleus of a team that finished the regular season ranked third in the country is the product of that change in philosophy.
Guys like Darrun Hilliard, JayVaughn Pinkston, Tony Chennault, Ryan Arcidiacono, James Bell, Daniel Ochefu and Josh Hart were hand-picked not just for their ability but also for their character and desire to be Wildcats for the long term, not just the short term.

What about Brunson though. I doubt he would stop recruiting McDonald's all Americans because they want to leave after one or two years. And did they ever have an exodus of underclassmen leaving early. I just remember Scotty Reynolds was another 4 year guy.

He could have gone to other schools that would have given him the ball by himself.. The fact that he chose Nova plays into Wright's philosophy above imo.. I doubt he would stop chasing 5* also if he thought the kid could fit in easily.. As he stated above he wants kids who are going to enjoy the process.. He did stop recruiting Rawle Alkins last summer plus there hasn't been much activity between Nova & Trevon Duval so far this spring either.. He's creating a nice vibe around his recruiting efforts..

Would not be surprised one bit if Brunson stays 4 years. I've never thought much of him as a pro prospect due to a lack of athleticism at the PG position...
By my eyes he's been on Duval as hard as anyone but I don't think that means much.
Anyways I agree with that philosophy 100% and made a similar post a while back in a discussion on this board about talent.. Potential is great but you're a College team that future pro projection means little. Rather have guys that are producers now vs a higher ranked kid whose best days are a head of them. When you look at it from that perspective you can see Duval and Brunson still fit.

Potential is great but you're a College team that future pro projection means little. Rather have guys that are producers now vs a higher ranked kid whose best days are a head of them. When you look at it from that perspective you can see Duval and Brunson still fit. This philosophy makes sense. It really is more about execution and performance than undefined talent. Now, obviously, the more talented you are, the more likely you'll be a good player and excel in college, but just because somebody is athletic (which many define as a large part of "talent"), for example, doesn't mean he will be a great player. As I've said before, I think the key with Wright is that he put together pieces that fit together well. I think part of the problem with our team last year is that the parts did not fit well. You had a shooting guard (DSR) who was a very good player, but not really a point guard, not really meant to be the first option, and a more methodical, slower player. Then you Peak, who was very athletic and shot pretty well. Campbell, who was athletic, but couldn't shoot. You had a few wings who had trouble shooting, one of whom wasn't terrible athletic. And then you had the somewhat immobile center (Hayes), and youth in Govan and Derrickson. And almost everybody couldn't defend. Sure, the 2007 team had a ton of talent (more than last year's team), but the pieces of that team also fit extremely well together. Even the guys on the bench had their roles and filled them well and successfully. No matter what, you need to recruit guys who are going to be great college players, but they also need to fit together, and I think that was somewhat lacking last year. Even though we are returning a lot of guys, the additions of Pryor, Mulmore, Mosely, Agau, and White will be a boost, and definitely change the team chemistry. Let's hope it's for the better.

Seton Hall's Isaiah Whitehead says that he will announce May 19 whether he will be staying in the NBA Draft, or returning to South Orange for the 2016-17 season.
Methinks he gone.
