Well, as we can see, JT2 and JTIII's coaching philosophies DEFINITELY differ. JT2 felt you could never have enough big men. Now it seems, JTIII can never have enough 6'3" to 6'6" wing guards on his roster. This is the wave of the future. IT seems we are going to putting out more wing-guards than UCONN in the upcoming years to NBA.

IT seems we are going to putting out more wing-guards than UCONN in the upcoming years to NBA. I suppose the fact that so many young big men jump to the NBA now may factor in. Seems like all of the top rated high school power forwards and centers want to make the jump. Ever since 2001 when Curry, Chandler, Brown, Diop, and Cisse all tried, it's becoming increasingly popular. Talented big men are at a premium in college hoops today, which makes them even tougher to get. Coach Thompson recruited many great NBA bigs like Ewing, Dikembe and Zo, and also some other very solid big men like Othella and JYD. It's hard to find such talented big men willing to come to college nowadays, and when they do come they're more likely to go to UNC or Kansas, or some school that lines their pockets a bit while they bide their time waiting for their draft. Plus, III's system requires well-rounded players. Everyone needs to shoot, everyone needs to pass, everyone needs to handle. The author of one of the scouting reports for Rivers used the word "cerebral" and I think that epitomizes what's needed in JTIII's offense. It looks like theres potential for a bit of a log jam in the backcourt over the next couple years, but I'm confident things will work themselves out... it's a good dilemma to have, when you've got too many talented players to go around.

I think this is also a reflection of the times since big men go pro instantly and you need to build around the solid wings and tweeners.

Yeah it's truly more important to simply have bruisers that will rebound and chase after the wing's 3 pointers.
I guess shot blocking is nice, but it's certainly not the premium advantage of a decade ago.

Well, if our goals are to win the National Championship, you need some inside players to go along with great guard play. You can see what the last 4 National Champions had: Maryland, (Baxter and Wilcox), Syracuse (Warrick's block to win the game), UCONN (Okafor, Villanueva, Boone, Armstrong), and UNC (May, M.Williams, J.Williams). You need a balanced attack. I think JTIII is still working on this, but its one step at a time. Plus, if Cornelio ever develops and Roy keeps on improving, and Jeff stays, this can only help. Right now it looks like JTIII is overhauling the entire roster, starting at the guard position.

You guys are acting as if this is a draft. The player has some say as well. I am sure III is pursuing forwards and centers. He's also pursuing guards. Rivers wanted to come and we wanted him. I'm sure it was possible a F or C could have committed first. (Actually, one did -- PE, Jr.).

Actually, until anything is officially announce we do not know what school Pat Ewing, Jr. is transferring to. Stranger things have happened where somebody "supposedly" transfers and then it is a different story. Until I hear something offically from GU, i'm not counting on it.

They picked their spots, played good D, and got key rebounds. Wilcox was Jeff Green'ish, minus the consistent entry passes. Baxter was Mike Sweetney without the ball. Boone = Baxter. Villenueva wasn't as great a threat when they won as he was last year, and this year things didn't even work out all that great. Jawad Williams is overrated and never went inside. Total putz. Every big shot he made was a 3, from beginning to start last year. Marvin Williams = Villanueva with some heart. He can go inside, but half the time he isn't there. I was thinking more along the lines of a big Chevy Troutman, maybe a Boone or Baxter. May would be a dream, but kids like him don't show up too often.

I not necessarily talking about scoring, I just want some defense and rebounding in the paint. Thats what those bigs I mentioned, provided. Guys that make you think twice before going into the lane. Right now, its like open sesame with our interior defense. It needs to get better if we are going to contend.
