Permit me a geezer moment. This Nova team reminds me a lot of the 1969 NY Knicks. A good offensive team but led the league in defense. Archi does a great Clyde Frazer imitation. Great defender, floor leader, sweet pull up jumper. Ochefu does Willis Reed pretty well too. Not a great leaper but a force both offensively and defensively under the basket. Jenkins reminds me of a poor man's Bill Bradley. Not the greatest ball handler but deadly from outside and of course a great bball IQ. And Josh Hart even looks a little like Dick Barnett. This is probably the greatest compliment I could pay a basketball team since that Knicks team is what made me fall in love with basketball. Anyone else old enough to remember agree/disagree? Very nice comparison, had not thought of that one. Bridges as Phil Jackson - long, big wingspan, tough defender?

It is also sacreligious to mention Arcidiacono in the same sentence as Clyde. And you my friend should know that Phil Jackson did not play a minute for the first Knick title team, missing the season injured.

Yeah I did mix up the rosters in my head. And I agree that Archie and Clyde is a stretch - other than both being point guards.

Who gets to be Nate Bowman or Bill Hoskett? And what about Danny Whelan? Yeah, I loved that team too.

I don't think this comparison is really apt on an individual level, but it certainly is on a team level. Both teams played beautiful basketball. Actually, in comparing players, I think you may have missed the best comparison. Josh Hart = Dave DeBusschere (at least on a college level

I know that Roy Williams is going to be in the hall of fame as a coach at some point but how does he leave 'nova's best shooter wide open on that last play. I get that you need to make Arch stop with the ball and hopefully give it up, but you just can't forget about the other teams best shooter. If he makes that shot against tight defense then you tip your hat and congratulate him, but that was not a good defensive scheme on that last play. What is Brice Johnson doing standing all by himself in the middle of the lane when there is not a 'Novas player within 15 feet of him? You had to know they were going to run something similar to what they did!!! I'd kill to have Roy "Two championships, eight Final Fours" Williams coach my team. Not sure how that's getting out-coached. BTW, what Hall of Fame are you talking about? Two championships & eight Final Fours, yes, but in 28 years at Kansas and North Carolina, where you are practically guaranteed of having one of the best rosters in the country every year. He coaches an up and down style of play that wins when he has the best players and loses when he doesn't. That works at Carolina.

That last point nails it - Roy's style is great when you have the best team, but it is limited when you don't. He does not make a ton of adjustments, they basically play one way. Now Roy does not just roll the balls out and tell them to run the court. Their high tempo offense is very well designed - Bilas did some good stuff in the pregame show breaking down their secondary break offensive plan. Roy knows what he is doing, but he is going to get beaten by teams with lesser talent when they are well coached and when his team does not have an overwhelming talent advantage.

Doesn't matter where it started, the same people keep bickering at each other over the same topic with the same tired arguments in every thread ad nauseum. You can blame the bartender for serving you that beer, but you have to take responsibility when you get behind the wheel. It makes the board virtually unreadable. On edit: preceding posts that belong in this thread moved there.

That's at me or the one's who brought it up? Remember, when you read things you aren't necessarily paying attention to the title of the thread and are responding to what is posted.
