Track AND Field. There goes the conniving word field. That is why the Hoyas will probably not win the Big East Track and Field meet this Friday and Saturday in the new facility in Staten Island. Apparently, it is a very nice facility that the Hoyas like. Villanova will probably be the host (maybe St. John's). And yes, the Hoyas might win the track part on both the men and women's side. Again, this will be a battle between the Hoyas and Nova. Since the indoor meet has plenty of middle distance races, the Hoyas should be in a battle to win the track part. On the field part the Hoyas have a couple of men long jumpers and the women empty on this part.

In the men's 1000m trials, Hoyas won both heats. Frosh Spenser Brown won his heat easily in 2:27.01 with Tommy Williams in 4th in this heat in 2:29.24. Cole Williams nipped Slade of Nova in the 2nd heat in 2:28.71. The finals take the winners of each heat and the next six runners, so three Hoyas in the finals. The women's 1000m trials were scrapped and they will have just the final.

The women defended their DMR title with a time of 11:18.02. Sam Nadel and Sabrina got the Hoyas a great lead on the 1200 and 400 legs. Villanova with Angel Picarello closed the gap on the 800m leg, and the Nova runner took that lead on Katrina Coogan. Katrina just sat on the Nova runner and with two laps to go blew Nova away.

Wow!!! The Hoyas beat Nova on the final straight with Amos Bartelsmeyer outkicked Denault of Nova. The time was 9:28.91, which might be a meet record. Mike Lederhouse shadowed Williamz of Nova for the 1200 leg. Joe White keep with Nova on the 400m leg, Ahmed Bile kept the Hoyas close on the 800m (probably didn't want to pass the Nova runner, since he would be a pacer for Amos on the 1600 leg). And Amos kept pace with Denault all the way. It looked as if the Nova runner got a couple of strides on Amos, but off the final turn, Amos lengthened his stride and beat Denault to the finish line with Denault falling across the line.

Splits for the DMR of Lederhouse (2:53.6), White (47.3), Bile (1:50.3) and Bartelsmeyer (3:57.1). All great legs.
The Men's DMR time is a new Big East meet record and number 2 All Time in Georgetown history.
