We're taking off in about an hour. Who's going to the providence game?
What should we be doing on Friday night? Anyone want to meet up?
Where do we go before the game? Thinking 8am. Thinking brunch. Thinking drinks. who's in?
Postgame is cool, too. SFO Hoya, mcbricks, Cambridge, myself and Alonzo mourning* will be there.
* Not likely to be there but you never know. Weird happens on our trips.

We are like 9-2 on these trips so it's not impossible.
Also, we may end up in a fight or jail. I make no promises.

It was jarring to see how much the Providence fans truly loathe the Hoyas. I don't know if it's a little brother complex or what. The Syracuse fans were much friendlier when I was at the Dome for the Otto Porter Game.

The Syracuse fans were much friendlier when I was at the Dome for the Otto Porter Game. I, too, have been to games there, and I, too, would observe that the hostility is jarring. I've been to at least one away game at every old BE venue, and the only one worse was Morgantown. The Dome was shockingly friendly (almost disappointingly, frankly). Ironically, it may be better now that they've strung together consecutive good years. I can't recall specific suggestions for you guys, unfortunately. The areas around the colleges have (not surprisingly) a lot of spots, and the area down by the river is fun. It's going to be incredibly cold! On EDIT: In Morgantown, the WVa state police had to help escort a group safely out of the building due to hostility from the crowd. Never seen that before. I forget the year, but this was a game during the Esh era that we won at the end following a series of extremely questionable calls against the home team.

I don't recall much in the way of unpleasantness from Providence fans during my one trip there, although that was during the nadir of the Tim Welsh era, so their fiestiness had probably been worn down over the years. I'm guessing the town as a whole retains a lot of its blue-collar, industrial, Buddy Cianci roots. I know they caution wild-eyed incoming freshmen about the "Brownie v. Townie" dynamic. WVU, on the other hand, was a $hit$how every single time, regardless of team standings or outcome. Anyway, SF, I really liked Trinity Brewhouse - walking distance to The Dunk: www.trinitybrewhouse.com/

Re Providence fans and their hostility- Providence just prior to the dawn of the Big East was the top Catholic school team in the East (think Marvin Barnes, Ernie D). Dave Gavitt was the father of the big East. I think there was a great deal of resentment at how Georgetown, St John's and even Villanova surged past them.

This one dude in front of me acted like PC had just won the NCAAT. I remained calm and congratulated him, and attributed it to at least 2 factors: 1) 8PM start on a Saturday night; and 2) PC has been bad for a long time, and an afterthought in conference realignment even moreso than Georgetown. Having two legit first round draft pick studs and a Top 10-15 team (at the time) is grounds for chest-puffing if you're a PC grad.

You too would have a chip on your shoulder if you had to spend 4 years in Providence, Rhode Island!

I've spent a good amount of time in Providence over the past few years (son is a senior at Brown). Best bet in town, food wise, will be found on Federal Hill (around Atwells Avenue). Sometime referred to as Little Italy, there are a number of great, small restaurants, which benefit from the immediate proximity of Johnson & Wales University. It's not really walking distance from the Dunk, but only a short car ride. Best seafood in town, albeit very pricey, is at Hemenway's down by the Providence River. The main street by Brown and RISD is Thayer Street, which has plenty of inexpensive restaurants; I like Andreas, a Greek restaurant with a great breakfast.
Can't really tell you about nightlife and bars. . . .

I went to the 2010 Ohio debacle at Providence. We were surrounded by Providence fans who took utter delight in Georgetown's defeat. The taunts, aimed at us and at the team, came fast and furious. At that point it was pretty easy to retort, however, considering PC's long stretch of futility.
Last year we went the game there, but the crowd seemed pretty subdued for the most part. The worst part about the experience was the drive home. On the drive back to Connecticut, there were signs for Hopkins Rd. and Hopkinton taunting us after Hop's 0-6 day at the FT line sealed the Hoyas' fate.

I ended up meeting up with this crew in Milwaukee in 2013, and let me tell you--if you are in Providence this weekend, you should try and meet up with them. You will enjoy yourself, and crazy things may / will happen

I will be there with some family (my Hoya grad), an '81 classmate and another Hoya. Have to make a quick hitter to get back up to Boston for a 4 PM HS hockey game. Trinity Brewhouse is indeed a good spot that is a block from the Dunk.

Mediterrenos is one of those places where there are obviously mafia members holding shop eating but the food is out of this world. Someone mentioned Trinty brewhouse which is 1 block from the dunk. I still have my trinity brewhouse beer club ticket lol. Edit see Mediterreos closed 4 months ago lol. Andinos is good as well.
