Well, that was fun. So happy for Ike. That's what we've been expecting. Yes, it was St John's but he was hitting shots he's been missing for a while. Hope it gets him going.

Obviously most (if not all) players will get a + but the ones that get a ton deserved it tonight. It may skew but it's reflective of how guys played

To me, his shot still at times looks a few degrees flat, but nothing like the liners he was tossing earlier in the season, and I especially loved the way he was mixing up drives, short jumpers, midrange and 3s. It's that versatility that I think we were all expecting but not seeing. Peak is really on a great tear right now as well. I hope we can ride the improvement to a bunch of wins down the stretch, but we shall see, starting on Saturday.

It may skew but it's reflective of how guys played I wasn't suggesting that it's not deserved, but considering someone like Ike had a -3 in the BE coming into this game and will likely have a +20 coming out, a game like this tends to have a substantial effect on the aggregate.

It's nice to finally have a night where I'm not averting my eyes at the stat sheet. First I don't want to be prematurely bullish on our long term outlook. Have to look at everything objectively. This team still has a long way to go to beat the big guys in this league. We committed 14 turnovers tonight and still had too many fouls. Also, other than DSR, Peak, Cameron, and LJ, the other guys more or less played like they usually do. Plus, St. John's is a really bad team. It'll take a strong showing on Saturday to convince me that this latest "turnaround" is the real deal.
Still, it would be a huge mistake to downplay this game. Our guys needed this game in the worst way. If Copeland is truly back, I think we can be a very tough out down the stretch. He and Peak together bring a different dimension to our offense. Plus, JTIII seemed more comfortable letting the offense run, and, with three scorers on the floor, we were a lot tougher to stop. It's really tough to say where we are on defense, but I can say that our rebounding was crisper tonight. Even though St. John's couldn't contest a lot of rebounds, we were quick to the basketball all night long.
All told, this game is a really nice turn of events. I'm not going to read too much into it. But I am going to celebrate what the guys did tonight. Looking forward to Saturday! Hoya Saxa!

I think the big difference for us in this game v our other games was that St. John's did not make us play D. As a result LJ stayed out of foul trouble and could stay in the game. And of course Ike was feeling it. Hoped JT3 would have given more time to Mourning. Like to see if he and Derrickson could switch at power forward.

The good: offense was crisper, Peak and DSR showed up and played well, Ike got in a groove and was active, great cuts. This was good game for the teams confidence when they needed it. Great effort by Hayes early. Good effort through the game. Good job staying with the inside/out game.
The bad: still way too many (stupid fouls) by the usual suspects. 25 this game, many on offensive end taking away possessions. Both our big men had 4 fouls in limited play, although Govan kept from getting his 5th down the stretch. Marcus plays well at times then walks into turnovers at others. Tre was Tre, Hayes still makes some basic mistakes on D. D at times gave up easy baskets and missed rotations.
Overall: Great game at team level, although some of our weakness still show through here. However, this game represents our season - if we make shots, despite fouling/supporting cast, we can beat/hang with anyone.
Onto Providence.

Still needs to develop a consistent automatic form and he wont need to worry about missing shots. hopefully that comes next.

Unreal.. How many times do you see a team that wins by 25+ have 25 fouls? At this point of the season, you'd have to believe its about reputation.

It was St. John's but it's been a few games in the making. Isaac has his rhythm back. His mechanics don't look all the way there yet but his flow is.
LJ doing LJ things with his BB brain connected is fun to watch.
DSR wasn't the best player on the floor for the Hoyas tonight (though he was damn good). That sort of balance and multitude of offensive options are what we need to compete. The defense isn't going to be great and the fouling has to improve drastically still but a lot of that looks less daunting with other guys rolling.
Imagine if this team had Akoy and Paul available? Ugh. It cramps my brain every time I think about it. Just for depth and to spell guys that are struggling. Not to mention that, when the offense goes into cement mixer mode, PW is a good guy to have around to make passes like we saw from Reggie to Isaac for the dunk on the back cut. A few of those a game do wonders.
Here's to hoping that Marcus is OK. He landed HARD. I was thinking tailbone when it happened as it looked like he landed pretty flat and wasn't even able to get a hand down to break his fall.
I know it was the Johnnies and that they're pretty bad this year but LJ didn't look hampered at all by our offensive scheme. I loved the wrinkle of more of our guys (Isaac, LJ, Kaleb) posting up their defenders when the matchups were favorable for that. LJ looks like he has the skills for it. Isaac and Kaleb didn't look bad. LJ just looked good. If we can play more inside/out with those guys helping in that regard, it opens up guys like Reggie and Marcus for open looks that, without looking at comparative numbers, seem to hit at a much higher rate than when they're even somewhat contested. I think it helps Marcus the most as his wind-up for his 3 attempts seems to take a while at this level.
It was fun to dominate a team that should be dominated for an entire game for a change. Big test this weekend. But Nova is now #1 in the country and I don't think anyone is in awe of them. Wide open field this year and it's not quite over just yet. We'll figure out pretty fast what this team is made of if we don't know already. Clearly, we're a much better team when we're shooting well. The LJ drives and the post game might diversify us a bit if we continue with it. Not much to lose at this point. Play hard and see what happens. Nice win, Hoyas!

So the big difference tonight that I saw was confidence. This game is so mental, and the Hoyas knew they were the better team in this one from the outset. Everything they did offensively was decisive and with confidence. That attitude needs to carry over to the game against PC. DSR started off aggressive and never really stopped, need that to become the norm. Copeland played so well and I am hoping this will help him play with more of an edge against PC. Peak is on fire right now, he needs to keep taking it to the rim, good things happen. Well played by the Hoyas tonight, we have to somehow bring this approach and belief to win to the rest of our games against better competition.

Mullen doesn't seem to do much on the bench. A classic moment was right after Peak drove the lane for an easy dunk when no one from St John's rotated over, the camera focused on Mullen with a blank look on his face, just as Rafferty was saying "nobody home."
