This is 3rd hand info from the Pitt side, so take it with a grain of salt - but Marcus kept shooting the leather off the ball yesterday and even..drumroll... Jessie hit some shots from the outside. Both teams showed well offensively. Was told Pitt starters had success (better, even) but bench unit was in G'Town's favor. Likely how the 'fairly even' came about. I am sure the above does not surprise anyone here. This team is loaded with talent deep into the bench. This year JT3 really has to be willing to shake things up to create match ups in our favor. We will also hopefully see a lot of pressing and running. With the talent and their length this team should be able to run opposing teams into the floor. It will be interesting to see if JT3 is willing to take this approach.

Can we at least find out who started? From the Pitt report sounds like the starters were: DSR LJ Peak Copeland White Hayes since the bench standouts who played better than most of the starters were reported as Govan and Derrickson.

Yeah that's the only report I've seen, but professor and Allenxis must have access to another report because I didn't see anything about the stuff they shared.

Tough to really tease out if this means anything at all (and the answer is probably not).
* Keeping roughly even with Pitt is a positive because ever since the the BE Final in 2008, it's seemed they have our number * On the other hand, Pitt went 8-10 in the ACC and had a Pomeroy ranking of 78 last year * It's great to hear the offense clicking after earlier reports had put the defense ahead of the offense * On the other hand, Pitt's offense apparently did well * On the original hand, Pitt tends to be much stronger offensively than defensively, despite their reputation * It's great to hear the subs did so well * On the other hand, that means the starters did less well * Finally, it's a bummer we didn't crush them * But on the other hand, we apparently outplayed UVA last year but we weren't necessarily better in the regular season
Teams work on things in these practices. They are trying to win, but they are trying to win within certain self-imposed restrictions, like "We're going to play zone this entire quarter" or "Just keep pounding it inside, I know it's not working, but keep at it."
Still, I would have like to have crushed them.

Nice to hear DSR, Marcus, and the bench play well but rotations are going to be longer and lineups funkier than a normal game. I always figure coaches use games like this to try different tactics and scenarios to see how their kids react and could really care less about end result within reason...

But, it's not only in full-court press or running on offense, it's also in the half-court. We need players to be constantly moving in the PrinceTown offense. Lately we've seen a lot of standing around which has led to the disappearance of the backdoor, packed lanes, lack of cutters and easy baskets. On defense, we need aggressiveness with control, and without the overplaying and the fly-bys when covering the perimeter. Stay in front of your assignment. This year, if a player is not moving constantly, he gets to sit.

I wouldn't think stats from a scrimmage against JMU would tell us anything about anything.

Which is likely all we'll hear about the secret scrimmage in DC. Also like grains of sand in an hourglass the season is only 7 days away yet still seems like the hourglass will never need to be flipped.
