The USA Today Coaches poll was just released... Hoyas listed among the "Others receiving votes" category at #30. Villanova (9) and Butler (22) are the only Big East teams in the top 25. Other opponents are Maryland (3), Duke (4), Wisconsin (17), UConn (24), Xavier (35), Providence (42), Marquette (50). sportspolls.usatoday.com/ncaa/basketball-men/polls/coaches-poll/

No mention of Cuse anywhere. When was the last time that happened?

No mention of Cuse anywhere. When was the last time that happened? Especially since 6 months ago this was supposed to be "their year". They even took the post-season ban last year hoping it would stop the NCAA from banning them this year.

Now it is NEXT year they claim that they will return to prominence.

I think the poll underrates the Hoyas somewhat, but it is understandable. The potential of the team's talent level could result in them being anywhere from 10 - 25, so seeing 30 is a little disappointing. Still, so much depends on potential being realized that I can see why voters would be somewhat hesitant about predicting them to be top 15 or even 20.
By mid-December we will know a lot more about how the Hoyas stack up. Going 2-2 or 3-1 vs Maryland, Wisconsin, Duke/VCU, Syracuse will make it clear the team deserves higher recognition.

The AP poll is out... Hoyas at #33.
As in the coaches poll, Villanova (11) and Butler (24) are the only Big East teams in the top 25. Other opponents are Maryland (3), Duke (5), Wisconsin (17), UConn (20), Xavier (39), Providence (40).

I'm all about as many Big East teams being ranked as possible, but what is the infatuation with Butler? Jones and Dunham? Is Tyler Lewis really moving the needle for them?

As always, the polls are heavily skewed by the tourney. Butler made the sweet 16, so everyone remembers them. Plus they still get credit for their recent finals runs.

SI just ranked all 351 teams using its "basketball projection system" which appears to be a statistical model that takes into account the projected offensive and defensive efficiency numbers for the players and teams. Georgetown checks in as number 18 and gets a shoutout as one of two "sleepers." SI Ranks Every Team

Still think even his model underrates us, though....

He wanted to list 12 ACC teams, but the editor restrained him.
