I expect it won't happen much, but it might from time to time. Here's why: From the Wizards' POV, they want the full rent of the Verizon Center. Perhaps if they are losing money on lower-attended Hoya games, they may want to move some games. Or if they have a better option on a particular date, they may want to get rent on Verizon AND the practice center. But stadiums are huge sunk costs -- unless one of the above is true, why would the Wizards' give up the rent money to take less rent money? From the Hoyas' POV, less rent cost would certainly be enticing. It would also be a better home court advantage if done right. However, there's this simple issue: there's more than 5,000 season ticket holders. And you want some students there, right? So let's say 1,000 seats for students and 4,000 for season ticket holders. Which, I think is about 2-3,000 less seats than season ticket holders. Of course, many season ticket holders would love not to have to pay for Norfolk State or whatever, but GU wants that revenue. GU could go to dynamic pricing, etc., etc., but at the end of the day, it's less seats sold. So they'd need to raise prices to maintain revenue. Assuming that the longest term or most expensive or highest donors get the tickets, as long as everyone is happy with: "full season" ticket holders prices go up; "partial" -- those who don't make the 4,000 -- season ticket holders go down, but not very much because it's the crappy games so per game goes up; you won't be guaranteed every game unless you are in the top half of whatever criteria; there's no single game tickets avaiable, etc. There's a lot of implications to having an arena THAT small.

I also think the location is a bit of a problem, as well. People always complain about getting from campus to the Verizon Center, but they are going to be expected to go to the Congress Heights Metro instead? I also echo SFHoya99's concerns about the size of the venue. While it would certainly create a much better atmosphere for those games, I am not sure it's feasible given the number of season ticketholders.
As I see it, the two main problems are size and location (keep in mind, McDonough at one time approached 5,000 itself). If it was in Rosslyn and it had 7,000-8,000 seats, then suddenly it's a much different situation.
My ideal preference would still be to do the late 1990s/early 2000s plan of renovating McDonough into a small arena with additional seats by sinking the floor. Supposedly, at the time, that could be done without any input from the neighbors, which is another reason it would be a great plan. There's virtually no chance of that happening, though.

I don't see St. E's to be a future site. Maybe GU should offer to buy Verizon Center once it becomes obsolete, which in NBA time is within seven years. By 2022 Verizon Center will be 25 years old. Only five NBA arenas are older than 25: Oakland Coliseum - new arena in discussion MSG - $1B renovation, but the lease runs out in 2024 Bradley Center- new arena close to approval Sleep Train Arena (Sacramento) - new arena under construction Palace of Auburn Hills - new arena under construction My ideal preference would still be to do the late 1990s/early 2000s plan of renovating McDonough into a small arena with additional seats by sinking the floor. Ah, ye of little faith. The residents at the time did not object to this, BTW, as long as the timing of the events did not interfere with traffic. In the end, most Georgetown resident grumbling surrounds either 1) real estate or 2) traffic. First world problems. An old Georgetown adage: Where there's a will and a bank account, there's a way. (MSF not included) Times have changed. DC is no longer hemmoraging affluent residents or dealing with crack epidemics, crime waves, and the mismanagement of Marion Barry. There aren't really any times when an event of any size *wouldn't* interfere with the already horrendous traffic of a commuter-heavy, nightlife-heavy urban area with streets from the 18th century and a campus not designed for vehicular throughput. Playing all home games on Sunday nights probably wouldn't please anyone. First world problems can carry with them the political power of first world elites. If you don't believe that, then I have a Georgetown University boathouse on the Potomac to sell you.
