Not sure about this move - on the one hand, it echoes his move to Tyson, big fish in a small pond stuff. On the other, lots of PT, great life experience and a chance to back door his way into a better look at the league. Money talks with all of us.

The Chinese basketball Association is not exactly a gateway to the NBA, it's usually for US players rising out their careers. It's possible he was told that he was not likely to stick beyond training camp and to consider other options.
Foshan has a population approaching 7 million, so it's a world away from the Idaho Stampede.

This is not meant to be a knock on JB but my buddy is his club host in Vegas. He gets tables which cost decent money which you cant buy on a D league salary.

Its not a knock. He like to have fun and spend money. Hell I do to that why I know how expensive it is. That being the case China is a better option than the D league for him.

I would hope that Jerrelle would not make career decisions based on some hearsay hankering for the clubs of Vegas. Not that he would be the first athlete to do so.

Well he did miss out on the China trip when he transferred so maybe he wanted to fulfill that dream of playing and visiting there.

Crazy how far he's come. I'm from his home town of Warrenton and was a freshman when he was a senior at Fauquier. My friend told me that JTIII had called Jerrelle and I called him a liar. I thought that there was no way a kid from Fauquier County would be recruited to Georgetown. Soon after that JTIII was seen at Fauquier High and I couldn't believe it.

"The Long Lions will pay him nearly $500K in base salary, and incentive clauses that could give him more will be in his contract, Reichert " "The decision to turn down a chance to go to Cavs camp for the Chinese offer was difficult for Benimon, but the early end to the Chinese season that could put Benimon back in free agency as soon as February helped motivate the former Towson standout to head overseas," www.hoopsrumors.com/2015/09/jerrelle-benimon-breaks-off-cavs-deal-for-china.htmlThe $500k is guaranteed as well. Seems like an awful lot to be paying someone who hasn't really played in the NBA. Wonder why more people don't take advantage of this. For comparison, NBDL salaries are in 3 tiers (13k, 19k, 25k) plus housing/insurance and $40 per diem.

That's a terrible per diem I think the NBA per diem was around $124 last time I checked. MLB is $100. You can eat pretty well on $40/day in Boise (or Foshan )

The players who choose NBDL probably believe it's the best path to the league. I agree with Jerrelle's decision, $500k's is great cheddar.
