impressive that he averaged 20 pts and 11 boards in d-league... who would have ever thought that he was gonna produce such numbers anywhere let alone at pro level?

Another kid never to crack top 100 out of high school to make the league...add that to Hibbert and Whittinton.

I think Hibbert was ranked top 100 in some services...but agree that it is amazing guys with those types of reputations have thrived before and after GU.
I always liked Benimon as a Hoya and was borderline shocked that he got such a hard time because he was perceived as "unskilled." Give me a guy or two like him on every team.
In retrospect, his transfer obviously worked out well for him, and he certainly used that year off to hone his skills. Good for him and best of luck.

I wish Benimon the best. It's great that he turned things around at Towson and might get a shot. All that being said, Benimon wasn't a great player in his time at Georgetown. I think that's why he got "such a hard time." If he played at Georgetown like he did at Towson, I think perceptions at the time would have been much, much, different.
As I said, I wish him the best. It's really rare for a player to turn things around so drastically, so it's great that he did.

Hibbert was ranked as high as top 10 when he was a freshman or sophomore, mostly based on height. But by the time he came to Georgetown, he didn't have a single Top 100 ranking, though he deserved one by the end of his senior year. Benimon took his transfer year off and learned to shoot. Without that, he's not as good of a player. I don't know if he learns that at GU - not because of the staff or whatever, but simply because the transfer and such might have given him some clarity, like it did to Vernon Macklin. Or not. Maybe he would have learned his shot here.

Wish JB the best! Agree that he turned his game around in his off-year and who knows if that would have been the case if he stayed.

Benimon (nor Whittington) has not made any final rosters. There are any number of recent players who were in training camp but did not see it through to the final cut.

Not only was he absolutely certain that Hibbert had no business ever wearing a Hoya uni, he didn't think he had any place on any team anywhere in the USofA - and he vehemently reminded us of his professional evaluation repeatedly! Long time posters undoubtedly recall Ignatius. He was just so darn certain! Of course, he may still be here on the board, reading and posting away under an alias. I guess when someone is that certain, then proven so incredibly wrong, it's time to hide one's face in shame and deny all connection with his former stance. Anyway -- good for Roy. I recall seeing him as a freshman playing in a preseason tournament in Honolulu with his fellow frosh and rookie coach JT3. I must say he didn't look like a future HOFer. In fact, when he "ran" he looked like his feet hurt. Never saw anyone work harder on his body and his game than Big Roy - I hope he does well in LA.

He was clumsy and not very good, though he obviously had potential. He broke his foot and didn't play for significant periods of time. He disappeared from his rankings not because he was a Hoya commit, but because he didn't perform and because he was hurt. During his senior year, he really progressed. I specifically remember him schooling Top 100 recruit Peter Prowitt (who went to Stanford). Ignatius already had his mind made up, but many of us saw the improvement that would signal his true value. But he didn't do it in the summer, so I don't think anyone bothered to move him up.

Even Greg Whittington's NBA thread gets suspended. Guy can't catch a break.
