I'm with The_Way on this one, sort of anyway. Although I thought Esh needed to go, signed the online petition, brought the petition up at the 2004 Hoyas Unlimited Meeting at the Big East Tournament with Joe Lang, etc., let's let it go. The Fox article ripped Esh. Maybe deservedly so as to how he handled the program, but let's not pile on. He is and always will be a Hoya. It's unfair not to give him some credit for seeing in Jeff what few others did at the time -- greatness. Esh, for all his faults, is still one of our own. Holding on to these grudges diminishes us. I hear you. And as much as I disliked Esh as a coach during his final season, I was loving him when he took us to the sweet 16.

IMHO, Esh is the living enbodiment of the Peter Principle. "People rise to their level of incompetence". He was a great assistent and recruiter but a lousy head coach.
If he wants to stay in basketball, he should return to his strengths and seek a job as an assistant under a strong offence minded coach. Then when he gets a second chance as a head coach maybe he will be able to coach in end game situations, not to mention being able to count to six.

It is interesting that he seems to have no interest in resuming his career as an assistant. Some (myself included) would point to his recent history of self-aggrandizement as an indication that he has become an egomaniac incapable of seeing any fault in himself.

I just do not understand this obession with so many on this board to keep regurgitating the problems of a period in GU basketball history that most everyone wants to forget. Can't we just once resist the urge to bludgeon Esh and move on.

FTB - I agree 100%. Why not look forward, people. Let this thread die a peaceful death. If Esherick lands a job, good for him. Endless rehashing of past failures is a waste of time.
