I'm starting to get excited about Derrickson as a true heir to Jeff Green. I'm not sure about his passing (and he's a little shorter than Jeff), but he looks like he'll be able to play the 4 and 5 (especially in smaller lineups), step out and hit threes, play in the post, mix it up on the boards and generally play like Jeff did. 6'7 is more than tall enough to guard most college centers, and he should be strong enough to handle most of them. No offense but I wish we could do away with all comparisons of any forwards who can hit a three to Jeff Green (ex: Porter, Copeland). Look I love Jeff. I'm pleased he play for Gtown. But there is only one Jeff Green and I don't want anyone else to be seen as his heir any more than I want any center recruit to be seen as the heir to Ewing, Mourning, Hibbert, etc. I want Marcus to be Marcus, not some imitation of Jeff and not even used the same way as Jeff. I don't want him at the high post looking to make potential passes to cutters (someone even asked how did Govan look at the high post! Really?!? That's where we care about seeing our talented big man perform?). I want Marcus passing because the situation requires it, not because III wants to have the offense run through perimeter-lingering frontcourt players more than through the guys in the backcourt. I want Marcus using his strong frame to post up inside in ways Jeff could not or would not do enough of. Since it appears he is a better outside shooter than Jeff, I want him to be aggressive in looking for his shot when he is behind that three-point line. He lacks Jeff's explosion and quickness but he can make up for it in other areas.

I don't see why anyone can be concerned over this outcome. Our guys have had what, a whole day of practice together for the first time? Who knows how long the other team has been together. We were without DSR. We already know what Copeland is capable of. We know if Peak has a much improved three-point shot then he can get whatever he wants. And as I pointed out before those three should be our leading scorers. Now throw in the fact that Marcus went off despite having an up and down KL summer. A newcomer showing signs like that in his first game (regardless of competition) bodes well for his future. Look at DSR's first game during his frosh season to get my gist. And speaking of DSR didn't that reporter from CBS Sports claim from what he saw Marcus was the second best shooter on the team after DSR? We got reports that Govan looked good and that Campbell continues to be an offensive threat off the bench. We got an indication that Mourning is indeed coming along strong and for an added bonus that Cameron was hitting shots. The only disappointment was how Paul White didn't perform all that well, but even that bit of info worries me little. I'm sure White will be just fine this season. I took in some of the Kenner League games and was very impressed with the team as a whole. I was glad I got the chance to sit through all five games when I was in town. I was most impressed with Jesse Govan, he was putting in work! He played like he had something to prove, he will be a solid contributor at the five. I can see Mourning putting in spot minutes at the five as well he doesn't get rattled by much of anything. He held his own against a slimmed down Robert Carter from Maryland and Carter had a step on Trey plus about 20 lbs. And speaking of the other Trey, Mr. Campbell was a beast from behind the arc I believe he scored 31pts that day. Riyan Williams looked good he should be able to come off the bench and help out as well. White looked as if he may have added 10 lbs of muscle and grown an inch. Kaleb Johnson looked like a stat stuffier he was everywhere, this kid can rebound and plays fearless. This is another solid team JT3 and staff have put together.

Trey didn't even need to go to a camp over the summer to match up against a beast in the post. Alonzo is still jacked and in ridiculous shape. Not to to mention, his footwork and his ability to position himself was always great even before he put on all of the extra muscle as a pro.

We are actually playing Lithuanian team tonight. JT III said at reception last night that he doesn't even know which one. This may have been noted already but we are playing the same 4 teams as Marquette.

Casual is reporting as if the game will be against the Dream Team Select which got trounced by North Dakota. TBH, I think there's more value in B&G's recap than in Periscope's 'live action'. I'm hoping Derrickson and Cameron continue to play well.
As did Monday's front page. A friendly reminder to check the above link regularly. --Admin

60-26 4 min. left in the 3rd. DSR in street clothes. Doubt we will see him at all as he's nursing his ankle with no boot.
