It feels like destiny or something, doesn't it? The next generation of Thompson and Ewing.... Feels like its meant to be in some way.
Welcome, Pat Jr. We're elated to have you.

Just to get back into the swing of things, I locked down the Ewing speculation thread and BD's thread that was aced out by this one (6 minutes earlier).

This is awesome!! The son of the greatest Hoya bball player will be playing for the son of the greatest Hoya bball coach! ;D ;D
On a slightly more serious note, does anyone know if PE2 takes up a schollie for next year if he pays his own way next year? Can someone explain how transfers work in terms of schollies--do they automatically take up a schollie, do they not count against the limit while sitting out, or do they only not count if they walk on ?

Ok so let's get to what we all really, really care about - the scholarship situation.
Does anybody know - since Ewing has already received a scholarship at a D1 school, will he count towards our schollie count much in the way Owens would even if he came back without a scholarship?
Does anybody know - if Ewing IS getting a scholarship, does he count this coming year? Can he NOT count this year but count next year?
If he IS on scholarship, DJ is for sure gone (as I think we already assume he is), Wallace will NOT get a schollie, and D'andre Thomas is not getting a scholarship (and likely not coming).
Thoughts?

I think the Expectation Police are going to have to come out in a few hours at this rate. PEJR's a good player and all, but let's not expect his father and burden him with that pressure.
Although I'm personally hoping he learns to run the high post in the PrinceTown sets, allowing Greeney to free up and wreak havoc, Hibbs to dominate in the low post, etc. Then on the defensive end lets just hope he develops into, say, Jerome Williams... only a bit more of a shot blocker.
When all is said and done, though, I just hope Little Pat brings the same fire and intensity his old man did. THAT'S what this team needs more than anything!
Can't wait for March 2007 Madness! JT3 runnin' Spann, Green, Thornton, Wallace and PEJR all over everyone's backs, with Edgerson, Hibbs, Crawford, Sapp and SEAD making up the best bench in the history of the Big East.

I'm inclined to say PE, Jr. wouldn't count against the scholarship limit immediately, but that's based solely on my own instinct, unfortunately.
As for the question of whether he's going to require a scholarship for the remainder of his college career, I wonder if that will be the case. According to reports he was looking at UNC and Miami, and I'm a little dubious on the prospect of UNC offering a scholarship at this point. If they could use him next year (to make up for the gutting of their roster, what with all the early entrants) I could see it, but PE Jr. can't help out next year. I don't think they'll have any trouble getting high quality talent at this point, and not to knock PE Jr's performance at IU or his potential, I would think that Roy Williams would prefer to try and snag the latest hot recruit than tie up a scholarship on a transfer. But that's just me.
So, maybe now that he's proven that he's scholarship worthy by getting a scholarship from IU, he'll let dad pay foot the bill? A Hoya can always dream...

I will be the turd in the punchbowl and restate my objections to this move, hopefully for the last time. Of course I will root for PE Jr. to do well, but I think this ends badly. In a world of unlimited scholarships, I could live with this move, but if DJ is shut out in order to bring in a player who cannot help a team that could be pretty good next year but needs depth, JTIII is showing loyalty to the wrong guy.
There were reasons he did not come to Georgetown in the first place, and not all of them were related to his mom. Guys who bounce from program to program for playing time are not the type of high-character guys I would like to see in blue and gray. I don't know young Pat and I don't know his motives, but I do know that the last itinerant scholar to come to the Hilltop was another lanky athlete named Harvey Thomas, and I believe had he never come to Georgetown this current decision would be up to Craig Esherick and not JTIII. The risk is not worth the reward here, unless PE Sr. is ready to make the initial 8 figure pledge toward the Thompson Convocation Center.

IU appeared to be solid under Davis. I wouldn't have wanted to play at Georgetown either during the Esherick years. The program was on the decline.
